  • Re: Shopping a Garment District for Fabric

I may be able to get a small group together and take the train over. If anyone is interested, let me know. It is a really fun place to shop!

I was just looking over a newletter from our local American Sewing Guild chapter (which I will soon join) and found that they are planning a trip to the NYC Garment District in October. The group is based in Clifton for those who are local and want to go. I'll keep you posted when I get more information...

I don't drive into NYC. I took NJ transit and Path to 33rd street. I took it a little at a time. I walked up and down West 39th Street and went into every retail shop I found there. It was like being a kid in a candy store. There is so much fabric you can''t believe it. The sales people are...

  • Walmart Fabric

Hi everyone. I live in Bergen Cunty, NJ. I love to sew. I was just getting really into it when Walmart decided to discontinue fabric. Whats more, Rag Shop is no longer with us. I stocked up on Walmart's dollar fabric before they got rid of it. I am in the process of building a list of new sources...

  • Plarn!

You know how sometimes you have an idea and then you find out others have the same idea? Well, I have been saying for years (every time a palstic shopping bag ripped and my food fell all over the street) "You know, these bags, woven together, would actually be pretty strong!" It turns out that...

I am sewing a wedding dress for my daughter. She saw a picture on the J. Crew website and we are copying the dress. (she wants only this dress0 The design was on the material and the closes we came is a taffeta material with an overlay design with flowers. We are taking 3 patterns to make the dress,...

  • Re: Sewing Stuff

I had some fun plans for sewing but my machine went on the fritz right before Christmas. I took it in but their repair guy was playing Santa and didn't get it fixed until after the holidays. My DD tried to finish up her rag baby quilt- but the tension was still bad. After spending last Sat night...

  • Re: Halloween Costume Challenge

I stocked up last year on used costumes at Kmart the day after Halloween. Fancy unicorn, cat puppy, etc for 90% off so like $2.50- about the same price as a zipper. This year I don't think I"ll have to deal with this as we have quite the costume collection. Plus one son has his birthday and...

  • Re: What would you most like to see in The Dollar Stretcher Community?

I'm new so some things I mention may already be available. Do you have a search engine to find answers on certain topics. Could you cover the latest "product" releases and whether they are any good or not or poll the audience? Cover basic things like how much does it save you to drive 55...

Speaking of tp I have to share the funniest story. I took a sewing class and they were trying to sell us all on these patterns that would work for "everything" and then we wouldn't need our old tissue paper patterns any more. He said one lady had who was very frugal but fairly affluent...
