  • Re: Canning Lessons Learned

Process everything that you home can. In doing so, you cut down on bacteria, that could be hiding. I even process jellies and jams that are said to be safe from processing. Just process in a boiling water bath, for 10 minutes. You cut down on bacteria, and your canning is even safer.

  • Canning at home

I'm thinking of starting to can things at home, but have no idea where to start. I've found plenty of online instructions on it, but if anyone has any pointers, they'd be appreciated. I'd be starting out by canning drink mixes, tomato sauce and soup, but may move on to other things once...

  • Re: A canning question...

My older sister always pressure canned green beans, and they were the only ones her family would eat -- never tinned ones. I grew up hearing stories about pressure canners blowing up, so I was very leery about getting one myself. I just bought a Presto 16 qt. pressure canner from Wal-Mart for less than...

  • Pickle question

A friend of mine recently bought a canner and canned dill pickles. Apparently the recipe said to wait a certain period of time before opening. That time passed and they are not quite what she expected. I don't have the recipe she used. Is this something that the longer they are stored, the more "dilled"...

  • Re: List any "time- saving" ideas

Laundry is a little overwhelming so I've been using those color catchers- that way I don't have to sort colors. I reuse them until they disappear :) I try to get John to bring home meat already ground so we don't have to grind it ourselves and so I can quickly freeze in baggies. I"m...
