  • Pinto bean fudge

    Mash 1 cup of warm cooked pinto beans. Add 3/4 cup melted margarine or butter, 1 cup of cocoa powder, and 1 TB of vanilla. Mix in 2 pounds (usually 1 bag) of powdered sugar gradually. Add 1 cup of chopped nuts, if desired. Pres into a 9x13 nonstick or oiled pan, and store in the fridge.

  • Candied Grapefruit Peel

    With a vegetable peeler, peel off long sections of grapefruit peel, leaving behind the white, bitter pith. When you have peeled the whole grapefruit thusly, cut or tear the peels into small pieces between 1" and 1.5". Boil for twenty minutes. Drain off the orangey water. Boil for twenty more...

  • Homemade Caramels

    These might not be "frugal", but if you double the recipe, it makes a lot and people are very appreciative. I give these to my friends and family every Christmas. When I double the recipe it goes in a 9x13" pan. The last time I did this, however, it was really tough to get the caramels...

    Yes MacIntosh toffee! it is good. Haven't had it for years! use to eat it all the time when I was a kid in the 70's. Don't remember seeing it recently, will have to check! Funny thing! on ebay you can buy all the candy you want. Kitkats are sticks wafers layered with chocolate and covered...
