I don't understand the question that comes up around the holidays - "what am I going to do with all this leftover food?" but I may be in the minority, or even alone!
Pat,

I agree with you! We always buy a turkey that will leave us with lots of leftovers. On Thanksgiving Day we eat our family meal at lunch time and then leftovers for supper. The rest of the turkey is divided in half. The largest 1/2 will make sandwiches for lunch the next day, usually with what ever veggie tray items are left. and we add some chips and fruit, then for supper we (ALWAYS) have turkey pot pie!!! My children always ask just to make sure, this is a family tradition that started when my dh and I got married 30 years ago. We usually make this in 2 9 X 13 pans. We usually let the kids have friends over on this night and we usually play games. Sometimes we put up the tree on this night while the pot pie cooks. It is a special time for me as the mom to see my family enjoying the home cooked food and the fun they have being home with friends and family even though they are now grown.

The 2nd half of the turkey will be used in turkey veggie soup with cornbread and usually we will have enough left to make a turkey and pasta dish. Any veggie tray items end up in a salad or the pot pie. Any stuffing leftover will usually end up with turkey pieces added to it and then heated up with turkey gravy poured over the top.

My freezer is so full, I can't even get an ice tray in it. I opened the pantry this morning and 2 bags of chips fell off of the shelf. There was a terrible ruined onion smell in the pantry and I dug around until I found a small little onion had fallen behind the basket I put them in and fallen behind the soda cartons. Not a pretty aroma I can assure you. The canned good cabinet is bursting at the seams. (Randall's had canned Green Giant veggies for $ .39 each this week.) No limit. I need to clean out and reorganize my shelves and freezer.

Re: What are you doing with your left over Halloween candy?
If you bought any size of "Snickers" candy bars you can just throw them in the freezer
Thank you for your kind words.

When we think about the fact that God knew our child and his ways before we did, it is humbling to think that he still chose us to be his parents. He could have chosen someone with more patience, more education, more knowledge than we have or more money to pay someone else. But alas he did not. He chose us anyway. If you think on that it seems strange, but the truth is God knew you too. He knew how much you would love him and sacrifice for him. What a blessing you are to your son and your other children. It must be true, because God picked you for them.

Re: Past due call from the bill collectors.
On a humorous note..
Thanks for your post. Your dh's question was the same one my dh asked. We agreed to pay this bill even if it is old. It was our bill and it should have been paid years ago. My dh says we should at least send our 18 yo son off into the world with all his (parts) paid for. We also thought it was the best way to practice what we preach. LOL You know how our kids always call us on it if we don't do it.

Re: The Poverty Business
A free public education is offered to every child in the country (The quality may vary but that's another topic.) and all of this household budgeting stuff is grade-school arithmetic.
Walt34, Not to be unkind, but I beg to differ with you on the free public education. Between the taxes, the monthly notes for extra supplies and fees the cost is not free. And the quality may vary statement is exactly the problem. You would be shocked at what most schools teach as consumer math and how long it gets taught to our students. You might also be surprised at how few parents may be able to teach these things to their kids. If these families came from impoverished homes they may not have the knowleged to teach that information. There are many families who know they are paying to much but think they have no other way. After doing some work for a government run job training center. I had to quit. They paid these young people and the adults to come to the class to learn office work, but after less than a year I realized that in no way were they trying to get these people off of gov. assistance. They paid child care, bus cards or gas reimbursments they were paid a daily fee, most were on food stamps, gov. paid health care, eye care, dental care, most rec. free food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas and rec. shoe vouchers for school in Sept. and checks to help pay for school clothes in the fall. Unfortunately in this program if the student got a job and kept it three weeks, it was considered a success. Most of my students were 2nd and 3d generation welfare children. I would say most of them, approx. 90 % were single parent homes. Many homes today are run by single moms who try as hard as they can to raise their children the best they can. All it takes in a home in todays economic times is one big bad situation ( illness or death or car breakdown, washer going out or an icebox not working) to send parents into the offices of these sharks. I don't know about you, but even with what we have in savings, it would not take much for our family to be in trouble. We don't have family or friends to borrow from in fact most would be looking to borrow from us. We have spent the last 19 years taking care of our parents, three have passed away and their is one left. We have used all we have to care for these and there is not much left to care for us with. We are not sure where the money for our old age will come from. Thats why we spend time in prayer for ourselves and others.

Re: What was for Supper?

Last night dd and dsil came to pick up their dd that I was watching. They usually don't stay more than 5 min. They had been there almost 1 1/2 hours when I realized they were not leaving anytime soon, so I decided to look for something I could make for all of us. I grabbed a bag of shrimp from the freezer and 2 boxes of pasta and 2 cans of beans and made that for all of us. We had such a good time together. They have not been over in a while so this was fun. It was nice to know that part of the house was clean and that the freezer and pantry were stocked and I could pull something together in less than 25 min.

I have seen so many strange things for sell lately. Indiv. wrapped potatoes for baking, peanut butter by the slice, indiv. pkts of peanut butter and some of honey. I have seen pancake mix in a spray can along with icing in a spray can. Brownies made up a frozen so all you do is tear of the plastic and pop them in the oven. All the dif. kinds of slice fruit or veg. with dif.. types of dips. You hardly have to cut up or cook anything any more. The grocery stores sell chopped onions, carrots, green and red peppers, green onions and chopped and/or sliced potatoes and squash. You just look in the veggie section counters and there they are all cut up for you. You can even get soups in a plastic bowl. You go home place all the chopped meat and veggies in a pan or crockpot and turn them on and you have home made soup (LOL) for only $8.99 for 4 servings, if you go over to the frozen food section you can get 6 corn muffins and a whole chocolate iced cake to go with your soup for $9 more dollars and you have a whole home (cooked) meal for just $18 for 4 servings. Don't forget to add a few extra dollars for snacks. My family could eat 2 servings of everyting and still want more. The soup sold at our stores makes 4 - 3/4 cup servings not enough for 2 hungry men. I could make the soup, the muffins and the brownies for less than 5 dollars tonight, just from planned overs and pantry supplies.

This week for halloween our store has 12 cup cakes for sale with 12 plastic decorations and a spray on icing for $12.99.
