I have five children and a great husband. The kids' ages range from 20 to 6. (I now have two grandchildren with one on the way. My daughter got a son when she married his dad). I homeschooled my children for twelve years. I just re-entered the work force two years ago. I have a degree in English, but had never taught. I taught the first year through my state's non-traditional certification program, but decided to get my master's degree and teaching certificate at the same time during this past school year. Yes, I was extremely busy. When I wasn't grading papers, I was writing papers myself!!! I graduated in May, and I taught summer school for the first time this summer. I really enjoyed summer school; I only had ten students.

As you can tell, I am very busy. My kids play sports, and I keep my sweet grandchildren some for my daughter who is in nursing school and also works. Her husband's schedule rotates, so I don't have them everyday. Now, since I have my professional life under control, I have to get my personal finances back under control. I'm working on a budget, and want to get all our non-secured debt paid off. I'm afraid when I've been so busy I've been "penny-wise but pound-foolish." I've found myself doing things like washing out ziploc bags but going out to eat almost every night!!! Old habits die hard, thank goodness.

I know how to stretch my dollars since my family lived on one income for so long, but I still find valuable advice and inspiration here. Thanks to all of you; please keep posting.

Re: new to forum

Hi LhasaMom6!

I am honored that so many of you think so highly of all that we have to say here. That's great that you are here reading all the wonderful tips and lively discussions we have. Please join in those and add your thoughts to the pool of ideas that make this community so fantastic and frugal for all.

If you are not sure where to start, try posting something about yourself so we know who you are. It doesn't have to be a well written full biography. A short paragraph about how you found the community, what your family size is and what your occupation or interests are and why you are frugal or wish to be works great.

Some people feel a bit overwhelmed by the discussions and don't know where to begin in them. When this community began, only a few of us knew each other from other boards and places. With each new poster, we all make a new friend and that person becomes a part of the community..I am confident that you will be just as welcomed here as everyone else has been.

When you post an introduction, some of us find articles or discussions that may interest you to help you get started. This is why it's helpful to add a little about yourself so we can better help you to find what you need.

You can start new discussions if you have specific questions or comments. We are usually quick to respond so you should soon get ideas to consider or the answers you were looking for.

So don't just read about dollar stretching, become a dollar stretcher.

Hello out there!

Well, well, well.....I've been reading Dollar Stretcher for YEARS and never knew there was a COMMUNITY! I am a budding frugalista. I just spent February doing a no-buy month and it's one of the best things I've ever done. I saved $400. I launched a blog at my job, The Frugalista Files. I hope you don't mind if I post some of your helpful hints on my blog. "Frugalizing" a process, but one that's well worth it.

Natalie

blogger, The Frugalista Files

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/frugalista/

Hi from NE Ohio

Hi everyone!

I've been reading Stretcher for a long time, also reading some of the forums and I had to have a question before I joined -- more on that later.

I live with rescue dogs in my home. Like-minded friends and I do frugal things together -- cooking up that Angel Food, picking our own at pick your own farms, some canning, and baking our brains out.
