Welcome to the Forums! We have other members at your end of the earth, namely Australia. It's good perspective for us.

Marmalade is wonderful! My friends and I made orange marmalade and four fruit marmalade in the winter from gifts of Christmas fruit!

Re: What have you put up for winter (from your garden, etc.)?
My parents' garden and canning ambitions are much smaller than when I was a kid, but I try to help them out with the garden a bit since I can't have my own yet.
That's important! Plus, you're carrying on a family tradition. I've canned in small batches even when I lived in an apartment and had to rely on purchasing food at grocery stores and farm stands.

BTW, *admiration of orange fingernails*

Re: What have you put up for winter (from your garden, etc.)?
I can butter .
How do you can butter? Since I only have a fridge freezer, that would be a way for me to conserve space.

I had family in from out of state this past weekend, so only got 20 quarts of cherry/lemon juice done.

Re: What have you put up for winter (from your garden, etc.)?

Since I don't have a freezer other than my fridge freezer, the amount just seemed high. When you are doing for many adults, and think about it per person, it brings it down to size, so to speak.

My sympathy for your loss.

Some of the Forumites just boggle my mind with all that they put up. Is there life outside of canning and freezing produce in the summertime?

Does everyone continue canning throughout the winter too?

Re: What have you put up for winter (from your garden, etc.)?

Wow, daylily! Those seem like huge amounts, though maybe not. How many people in your family & how long will this last for you?

Re: What have you put up for winter (from your garden, etc.)?
half gallon jars of grape juice
Michelle, how many cups of grapes do you use when using the half gallon jars? Do you ever make jelly from your juice? (So much easier from juice, I think, than trying to make jelly from the whole fruit.)

Re: What have you put up for winter (from your garden, etc.)?
Translating a 100 pounds of grapes into jam is something I have been trying to avoid thinking about.
Also, welcome to the Forums!

Re: What have you put up for winter (from your garden, etc.)?
88 qt canned green beans, 22 qt broccoli frozen, 6 qt cauliflower frozen, 6 qt canned pickled peppers. 9 pints of canned peas.(I'm the only one that eats them!)
OMG! I think you get the prize for canning your head off! I am really impressed!

Maybe you could sell some of your excess cukes since you have so many pickles left, or trade for something you don't have?
