  • Re: I'm usually running around...

Were you the same person who posted this on ChowHound earlier today?  Just curious if there is a fellow chowhound lurking!

  • Re: Anyone use Open Office?

We have used it on our home computer with no problems.  I'm not sure why we are now using Microsoft Word again but Les put it on here. lol  My son's school is using Open Office.  He said a teacher told him that Microsoft was charing the school $3000 per year to use Word so they switched.

  • Re: Other Uses for Coffee

When I worked at a grocery warehouse and we'd get trailers to load that had bad odors, they would open a couple of cans of coffee and put them in the truck.  It works great as a deodorizer!

  • Re: firefox does the coolest stinkin' thing!!!

Yes, that's a plug-in.  I had it for a while but I didn't really like it.  It didn't always work right.  However, they may have made some changes.

  • Re: Returning after a mostly absent summer

Welcome back!  I've been mostly absent this summer, too.  My daughter started her sophomore year of high school today and my son started 4th grade.  The house is so quiet...well, except for this thunderstorm that's moving through right now.  I hope you've had a wonderful summer!

  • Re: Removing Cat / Pet Smell in old house...

I agree with the above that you need to use sealers to get rid of the odor.  Depending on the floors, simply painting with latex paint before laying carpet or some other flooring will get rid of the odor.  That's what Les did at his job for a home that a dog breeder lived in.  Apparently, they let the dogs have free reign ...

  • Re: Friday, August 14 $$$ Stretching

Good morning!  I got the kids registered for school yesterday.  The youngest's textbook rental fees were $125 for 4th grade and the oldest was $223 for 10th!  Thank goodness, we have textbook assistance.  We could not afford those fees without it, even broken into 3 monthly payments.  I have to get a few more ...

  • Re: using Vinegar in the rinse cycle of HE (frontloader) machines

I wish I knew the answer to your question.  I also have an  HE machine and have wondered about that and the Iron Out additives as well.  The guys who installed it told me to never use any powder (so much for using Borax in my wash to whiten the whites) but didn't say anything else about any other liquids.  I had ...

  • Re: Tracy's children's Back-to-School needs; any ideas?

Sometimes there are groups in the communities to help with school items.  I suggest contacting the school administration to see if they know of any that offer assistance.  Around here, they give out backpacks with supplies on certain days and while we don't wear uniforms, I have heard of uniform assistance in other areas.  ...
