  • Re: I had NO intention of buying a turkey today, however..

We got a good deal at Harris Teeter.  They had turkeys on special for $.59 and there was an extra email special for some free items.  So for $8.31, we got a 14# turkey, a box of Stove Top stuffing, a can of Ocean Spray cranberry sauce and a can of storebrand green beans.

  • Re: Line-Drying

I use my line for large/heavy items (jeans, bath towels, etc.); not worth the trouble to me to use for small/lightweight things.  I try to catch the things on the line when they're about 3/4 dry, then throw them in the dryer with a softener sheet for about 10 minutes to finish them up; that way, they're soft and ...

  • Re: What was for Supper?

Last night, I fixed chicken-fried steak (stocked up on cubed steak when it was $1.98/#), rice, gravy, broccoli and biscuits. Sort of messy to fix, but one of my very favorite dinners. Tonight I work til 6 and my grandson is coming to spend the weekend, so I'll probably stop and pick up pizza on the way home.  Haven't done that in ...

  • Re: What was for Supper?

Tonight was leftovers and probably tomorrow night, too.  We had lots of stuff from the weekend:  potato soup and Mexican cornbread, pot roast w/potatoes and carrots, and over half of one of the large pizzas from Sam's club.  Shouldn't have to cook anything else until at least Wednesday night.

  • Re: Rv Living to cut costs

Several campgrounds I've visited have some permanent or semi-permanent residents who exchange park rent for working so many hours per week. Some of the people worked in the trading post, tended the flower beds, did grounds maintenance, rode around on golf carts checking security and ushering in new guests, cleaned the bath ...

  • Re: What was for Supper?

I was wiped out from work today, so I took an easy way out.  Boiled a couple of eggs and opened two cans of Albacore tuna, added onion, celery and relish and did a tuna salad.  Served wth romaine, two of the few remaining garden tomatoes, and saltines. The romaine and tomatoes needed to be used asap, so it was good to use them before ...

  • Re: October 14 Deals

Harris Teeter does have good sales lots of times on many items.  We will be getting a pound of the $.97 butter and last week it was eggs for $.39 It was reinforced to me yesterday how important it is to look at B1G1F items, though, and not just take it at face value that it's always a good deal.  I went into HT to pick up some ...

  • Re: Already thinking about holiday baking...

Got a few pounds of butter in the freezer that I got on a good sale, and I also got some pecans the other night.  There were some 12 oz pkg of store-wrapped pecan halves with a date of October 10th marked down to $1.99/pkg.  I picked up two and froze them; there were 6 available and kinda wish I had been a pig and gotten them all
