  • Re: What Does "Financial Independence" Mean to You?

      1. Home mortgage paid off, or if it is tax benefit, have enough cash to pay it off today. 2. All credit cards and loans paid off, never to be used again, (except for convenience credit cards) for travel. 3. Enough savings to see me through the rough patches while being self-employed doing what I WANT and when I WANT. 4. Enough ...

  • Re: Swine Flu Precautions

Don't forget that the eyes are an excellent entry point for virus particles to enter the body. If you wear contact lenses, SCRUB UP, as for surgery before putting them in or taking them out. I think I may go back to my glasses until things blow over. Also, with allergy season upon us, eyes tend to become itchy and we want to rub ...

  • Re: Opinions Needed Please

I forgot to add, I was in the same position. I paid down two pretty large credit cards, leaving little cash in the bank. Were the cc banks happy, no, they cut my limits in half! Then I didn't have the cash nor the access to the entire lines of credit. I would leave a safety net somewhere AND work and find more money elsewhere to pay down the ...

  • Re: Opinions Needed Please

I would hang on to the nest egg, since you are fairly certain "it won't renew" itself next year. Your CC balances don't seem that high, relative to some other folks balances. You could seek out more ways to make money or save on things to pay extra toward them. If you had an emergency and had to go back and charge to the ...

  • Re: Magazines with losing weight articles

I don't think they are selling as much as they once were. I have gotten several women's magazines for around $10-$13 for 3 years. That's a lot cheaper than they used to be.  I still don't buy them at that price, because the content is always very similar and it creates clutter.

  • Re: Magazines with losing weight articles

What I find just as bad as the diets are the articles about how to "relieve stress in 5 minutes a day." It's impossible, with all the other articles telling you how to be perfect at everything else. (not to mention just trying to get by financially.) I don't buy them anymore either. I'm more of a This Old House or Mother ...

  • Re: Vertical blinds

Lowe's and probably Home Depot sells just the slats in different colors and textures. I just redid mine in a tan with a (tan) leaf print. It looks great with my new wall paint job. They didn't cost that much and took only a few minutes to change out. Cost will depend on length and style of course, but it is a great update for a lowish ...

  • Re: Kraft Food & Family

You could probably get the same info from their website..which I haven't visited lately. Since the coupons have disappeared, I would go frugal-political and "vote" with my checkbook, as in ignoring the offer. It won't take long for them to get the message. Besides, store brands are so much better now, you could still make the ...

  • Re: Personal and cleaning items with food stamps

Welcome AndiTan! I don't qualify for food stamps, etc., yet.........but, I'm inclined to agree with you. If I had $50 in food stamps and $10 in cash, I'd go with the olive oil also. It has so many other uses, you may kill more birds with the one stone (olive oil) than the cheaper mineral oil. I'd hate to HAVE no oil in the house ...

  • Re: If you pay Credit card payments online...

Bethi, the short month of Feb. may have been the cause..but...I HAD a Bank of America card that was never the same date for payment. It would range from the 1st to the 3rd to 2nd, and then once it was the last day of the month prior to it's payment MONTH(yes, 2 payments due in one month, on the 1st and the 31st!). I know of no ...
