• Re: what is EVOO?

Rachel Ray is credited with starting this. Personally, I don't like the acronym. Sounds stupid.

Returning aluminum cans. Around here you could go for a walk down almost any highway, pick up aluminum cans and other things. I haven't measured it, but I suspect you could make $25 to $50 a day.
I recycle both aluminum & tin cans as a little project with one of ...

  • Re: Monday November 1 $$$ Stretching

I took advantage of the last day of the weekly sale on meat at my local grocery store. Any 5 speciality marked meat packages for $20. I bought 10 packages for $40. I saved $40.42 off the regular price. I got boneless chicken breasts, inch thick butterfly pork chops, 93% lean ground beef and cubed steaks. I'm restocking my chest freezer.

  • Re: Saturday October 10 $$$ Stretching

I stopped by a local IGA grocery store to pick up red delicious apples at 68 cents a pound (4 day only sale). I noticed they rang up at $1.78/lb and was shocked at the $10 and $11 per bag cost of the apples (30 cents off if you bought a bag of apples). I asked them to check and it took them nearly 5 minutes with a manager's help. Evidently ...

  • Re: September EBT/Food Stamps/SNAP, Etc.

    Once you know the formula, it's simple. And yes, you can use a standard calculator.  $ saved divided by $ spent x 100 = percentage I spent $7.70 earlier today and saved $6.74. 6.74 / 7.70 = 0.8753 x 100 = 87.53%

  • Re: September EBT/Food Stamps/SNAP, Etc.

Thank you both. I figured out how to do the math to figure out percentages. Earlier this week I spent $73 and saved $51, saving 71%. Today, I saved 87%. And I didn't use any coupons, just bought the loss leader sale items. I've managed to buy only meat on sale (or reduced for quick sale) for just over a year now and for the rest of ...

  • Re: How to stretch SNAP/Food Stamps EBT - Irish Mom's thread

I'd recommend keeping food scraps. That is, keep a container in the fridge or freezer to put misc leftovers in. I make my own chicken stock from chicken bones. You can use chicken with meat on the bones, or just leftover bones. If you have a whole chicken for dinner, simmer the carcass for stock. The leftover container in the fridge can be ...
