  • Re: School Time is Nearing...how can you save when prices are so high?

Well, I have bought a pair of jeans for ds (age 10 size 8/10) on clearance at the Old Navy outlet for $7.99 and a pair of sweat pants for him at the Hanes outlet for $1.99.    He loves to wear just tshirts and jeans so he will get one nice collared shirt for the first day of school (picture day and any other important day).  ...

  • Re: Christmas gifts

I like making knitted dishcloths/washcloths.  I use a simple pattern that seems to be everywhere.  I also use it on larger needles with some thick chunky yarn to make quick throws which are a good gift for anyone.  Winter hats seem to be a great gift for every man I know, at least in CT. Daphne

Be careful if you use the sweater to make a rice bag because it will cinge/burn in the microwave.  I have dyed wool in the microwave and had an awful smell that almost burned.

  • Re: Sewing Stuff

I have sewn 2 flannel pillow cases (1 for my 5 yr old brother and 1 for my 9 yr old ds), a pair of flannel pajama pants (for my brother) and have to finish a denim rag quilt for my parents.  total cost with thread, elastic, flannel was ...

  • Re: Rice Bags

Yup rice, cracked corn and flaxseed will all work.  You can heat them in the microwave with a damp cloth to keep the moisture and then pop them in the freezer for cold.

I live in CT., but if you have a ShopRite near you that would probably be the cheapest.  On sale 20 lbs is $4-$6.

  • Re: Christmas wrapping paper

I just ran out of the wrapping paper I bought at Old Navy for $.05/$.10 a roll 5 years ago after Christmas. In the past I have used fabric to wrap any quilter/sewers gift and it is part of the gift.  We pass gift bags back and forth each year until it falls apart.   I sew reusable gift bags from fabric scraps and the legs of old ...
