  • ATM Fees

I just received my monthly statement which included my bank's ATM fee for a cash withdrawal.  My bank had recently gone to completely free ATM fees so I called.  I found out that I could switch from my "checking plus" account to a "checking free plus" account and incur no ATM fees.  The only difference ...

  • Re: It's all TOO Complicated (Vent)

Okay, I know a lot of the stuff is a GIANT pain in the butt.  However, there are some things I do like:  the internet, for one.  I love being able to chat with people from all over the country.  I couldn't do that before.  And I can check out online a store to see if their prices are good before driving all the way ...

  • Just wanted to share ...

Last year in June I made a decision that come hell or highwater (both of which I experienced this past year HA!), I was going to pay off the rather sizeable debt that had been lingering - everything except my house, car and HELOC - by June 30, 2009.  Part of the motivation was reading Start Late, Finish Rich by David Bach, my tattered ...

  • Re: Pride and humiliation

[quote user="juju_mommy"] And I get aggravated when, every time I go to WAlmart, they have 2-3 different groups of kids attacking you at the door to sell you something. I mean, I can understand... and I get that they are at least working for their money (rather than the groups that stand on the road in our area with a bucket asking for ...

  • Re: Charities' telephone calls

Get rid of your land line.  Everyone told me I would regret it but I don't.  I save over $20 a month for a phone I never, ever used (but kept because everyone told me I had to keep it (but no one who said that could ever explain WHY I had to keep it)).  I use my cell exclusively and always list the reception desk where I work as ...

  • Frugal security

There are too many details to give here but the simple fact is I'm single and suspect someone has been going into my house when I am at work.  The only thing I can think of to do at this point (I've already changed the locks) is to buy a "nanny cam" system (with the camera embedded in a stuffed animal or knick knack).  ...

  • Re: I can't get these credit cards paid off fast enough!

I keep getting my regular statements in the mail but they say "Even though you have a zero balance, we want to remind you that you have $XX,XXX available in credit when you need it." Credit card companies just don't get it.  I realize they are in the market to make money, but I would do the old "Mr. Mom" advertising ...

  • This is a bit premature but ...

... make sure you keep a copy of EVERYTHING when selling on ebay.  I sold a $50 gift card to Outback and the woman who bought it is trying to claim I never sent it and has locked up my paypal account.  Although my ad clearly stated that sending it certified mail was an additional $3.00 (which she did not choose), PayPal appears to be ...

  • Re: US Postal Service Wants 5 Day Delivery

[quote user="Deborahmichelle"] Dear Tortoise, I use stamps very frequently.  I send out birthday cards, thank you notes, & friendship notes.  Like you, I do not mail hardly any checks that I write -- I see people in person in my case, rather than paying online.  The only checks that I mail cover Medicare Part D ...
