Well I will be way under budget this month of $150. I have been sick the last 2 weeks-H1N1 that turned into pnuemonia. Finally picked up a few things today. Spent $12 at grocery store-tomatoes, gallon white vinegar, frozen organic enchilada meal, and frozen cheese tortellini. I also spent $13 at the meat market-1# ground beef to make meatloaf ...

During the week, I get home from work at 6 pm. I always need quick and easy. I can broil or grill a piece of meat, make potatoes in the microwave and steam some vegies or make a salad and have it to the table in 20-30 min. Quicker than processed boxed or frozen meals and much better for you. I also use my crockpot, I have 3 and I LOVE them!!

I agree with you, we buy fresh, local, and in season. If I buy organic lettuce from CA but it has to be shipped all the way to Minn, how fresh is it and how much fuel is used to ship it? And if it is getting shipped from South America or further?
I shop the farm markets, my garden, and local meat suppliers as well. Local farmers are more than ...

Try something new, but in a small quantity. I made prok and beans from some dried navy beans that were given to me. We love them, I will make more. I have a friend who gets them free with commodities from her church and they don't use them. Practically free for me.
Share recipes-tried and true recipes are the best. My salsa and spaghetti ...

I did my stock uplast month at my co-op. Bought 50# unbleached flour and 50# sugar. Also bought walnut pieces, dried cranberries, some spices, buttermilk dry mix, wheat flour and graham flour.
I bought mini nestle choc chips this week for $0.88, this will be used in a cappucino mix I make for Christmas gifts.

Wow!! I can't believe what you guys have to spend on groceries!! Yikes!! I spend $100 to $150 month for 2 of us. I am grateful for the garden, and the canned and frozen produce. Plus I don't buy convenience foods, so that helps to.
I spent $50 last Sun after church. Today I spent $16. Total-$66.
Won't shop again until a ...

I learned to can early in life from my mom and have canned for years. So far this year I have canned 14 qt of dill pickles, 14 qt of peaches, 6 1/2 pt peach jam, 6 pt strawberry jam, and 15 pt of green beans. There will be more green beans, are they are loaded with blooms. My tomatoes are loaded but just sitting green, hasn't been warm enough ...

I agree with Linda, we eat some of these things year round. I just made chili in the crock pot and did a turkey in my electric roaster out on my deck. But our summer in Minnesota has been so cool that no one has really used air conditioning all summer except for 3-4 days. yesterday it was 68 degrees, today it is supposed to be 74 degrees. So much ...

I just inventoried and organized my freezer in preparation for the garden produce that will be going in. Good challenge for me, because I have a list of things I need to use up.
I put the things I need to use in my freezer above the fridge, that way they get rotated and used up. Tonight we are having walleye.
I also keep a list of what I ...
