  • Re: Christmas decorations

The first year we were married, I was working for a Hallmark shop and since we had zero decorations, I bought at a big discount about every ornament available and the ones that were leftover after the holidays for pennies a few weeks later.  Hallmark was just getting into ornaments and they hadn't caught on yet so there were tons to buy ...

  • Quality appliances II - stand mixer?

The food processor thread got me thinking about a stand mixer again.  I'm afraid dh might be trying to get me one for xmas, and I'm not sure of the quality brand names anymore. I had a KitchenAid that dh bought me 6 years ago that only lasted 4 years!   I was so disappointed - someone said they sold out and were ...

Eww, we already have a home for ours...Liz.
  • Re: November Angel Food Dessert?

Brandy, all the stores here are turkey-poor and I've not seen them exactly jumping out of the freezers, at least yet.  The best price I've found so far is .39 a pound with a $50.00 purchase, but it's at a store that's high to start with.  We shop for mil there, though, so her store list this week will be 'buying' ...
  • Re: November 2009 Angel food menu?

I've got two Thanksgiving boxes coming and I'm looking forward to the fruits and vegetables in it - the cranberries, celery, sweet potatoes, plus the fresh pecans - that's most of the side dishes plus pecan pie for our holiday meal!  I can easily get a ham now that I have most of the remaining ingredients needed already coming and ...
  • Re: Crock-pot pumpkin pie

Oh, I'm glad it worked for you and that you were able to make it GF!  Yep, a keeper - I make it anytime I have a craving for the holidays in general or pumpkin pie in particular.  It's from the "Fix It and Forget It" crock-pot cookbook, by the way, under a fancier name - there are many good recipes in the ...

Don't run down the merchandise and then ask for a discount on it - duh.  We get this all the time at trade shows...Liz.

  • Re: Crock-pot pumpkin pie

Hmmm, I don't know.  I imagine the baking powder in the mix is part of what helps it rise - I've had it cave in before, tho, and it tastes just as good.  You could omit it completely and try it or substitute a third egg for the baking mix, maybe?

  • Crock-pot pumpkin pie

Brandy's pumpkin mousse reminded me of this wonderful recipe - it's super easy and is a dead ringer for pumpkin pie.  It's easiest to tell if it's done by using a thermometer as directed - I don't normally use a thermometer on foods, but I make an exception and drag out dh's bbq meat thermometer for this.  ...

  • Re: Bipolar disorder -- its price in money & in emotions

Thanks, Linda.  She's very good at taking her meds, that won't be the problem (she has bi-polar II, which is mostly the depression part, so she WANTS her drugs!) it'll just be budgeting for them.  She already is dreading going back to work and the fact that so much of her check will be going for meds is overwhelming.  ...
