  • Re: Cutting back on stuff besides food?

There is an appliance we use all the time called a hot shot.  It boils up to 2 cups of water at a time in about 30 secs.  DH bought one many years ago (think sunbeam made it) and then you couldn't get one up here.   Walmart had them a couple of years ago so we bought one for us when this one dies plus gave a few as gifts since ...

  • Re: Ideas to Use Odd Leftovers

couple of tips I have read for using up leftovers for family fun is either making a buffet of the week's leftovers or  doing a mystery plates.   heat up plates of leftovers, covered with foil or something so you can't see what is on the plate.  then everyone can grab a plate and trade etc like you do with the present ...
  • Re: Free sample of Kashi Granola

I like their kasha bars. cherry with choc!  We can't get the free granola in canada but if you go to kashi.ca you can get a free coupon for a box of bars
  • Re: Not Frugal Laundry

When I was having that problem of stinky towels (still holding the odor after washing/fabric softener) I found the hint here at dollar stretcher or tammy's recipes website about using ammonia in the wash.  just adding about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of sudsy ammonia (or store brand) gets rid of the smell but doesn't leave an ammonia smell.

  • Re: Co-payments for medications are going WAY up!

In Canada there are restrictions on how much companies can charge which is why the prescriptions are cheaper here.   There shouldn't be a choice between food and medicine in this day and age.

  • Re: Weekend stretching - 4/12 and 4/13

Beautiful sunny day here! didn't spend any money for a change!  should have spent the day in the garden but only a hour pruning/cleaning and put down one bag of bark mulch under the weeping cherry tree.  still a mess on the lawn to clean up. danelions the size of dinner plates.  did a few loads of laundry and taught ...

  • Re: Minimum Wage for Self-Sufficiency

I wasn't adding in utilities etc which with the annual water/sewage/garbage bill is about $225 a month.   Having a company car not paying insurance and gas would be great!  I think the savings would be $250 plus a mth.
