  • Re: Using ammonia on dark clothes

What type of commercial laundry soap do you use?  For years I used to add 1/2 cup of ammonia to all of my loads (don't use bleach).  It is a great dissinfectant but I've not heard of it as a stain remover.  I use a recipe that has it in it for a household cleaner. Bonnie

  • Re: I need advice on bread machines

Hi Linda, I received one years ago and it finally died.  I then replaced it with one that I purchased at the thrift store and I had a lot of success with it.  You can get on the internet and look up instruction booklets but they all work the same basic way.  I would recommend a 2 lb loaf variety if you do get one.  I stopped ...

  • Re: The laundy "soap"

Hi, I had to add my two cents on the laundry subject also!  I do a load of regular clothes every day.  Since the weather has changed, I've been hanging the clothes inside to dry. I hate to use the dryer.  Good for the humidy level also since we heat by wood stove. I will use the dryer for the sheets and towels since there is a ...

  • Re: Re: happy hanging out day!

Where we used to live we had neighbors complain about our clothes line.  They lived two houses down the street and I'm not really sure how they saw our clothes line.  When we moved to our current house, we made a point of making sure that clothes lines were allowed.  It is an older development and a lot of houses have lines out ...

Hi Brandy, Keep the faith!  I was reading something yesterday and after reading all of the posts, I just had to pass it on to you.  God is never late and rarely early!  Looking back on my life, I can say that is most definitely true!  My DH and I spent 3 years with the majority of our belongings packed away in storage and ...

  • Re: Re: Do You Bake Your Own Bread?

Hi, My DH bought me a kitchenaid mixer for christmas and I haven't bought a loaf of bread since.  It was a splurge for us.  My mixer had died and the one my neighbor gave us was quickly dieing.  Everyone has benefited from it!  We have 5 children and I try to count every penny.  I really hated buying white bread. I was ...

dontdreamitsover, On one of the knitting boards I read, one women wrote in and said that she buys old sweaters and takes them apart and re-uses the yarn.  I'm not quite sure how to determine if an article can be taken.  I think it might be trial and error.  But if it is feasible, stores like the Dollar Stores, Goodwill, thrift ...

  • Re: Re: Re: Homemade Laundry Detergent

Brandy, I really thought I was loosing my mind!  I have always tried to be extremely careful.  It is nice to hear that it just isn't me!!  I was happy with my wash after I used the homemade detergent.  I can't wait until it starts warming up outside to hang my clothes out.  Does anyone else have problems with ...

I can attest to the boiling water working.  I used it last year to kill an ant colony.  Not only did the ant colony die, but so did the lawn and the ornamental grass! Bonnie

  • Re: Re: Re: Homemade Laundry Detergent

Hi, I'm trying the homemade laundry detergent as I type.  I have always used vinegar as a rinse and this works really well, especially when the clothes hang outside to dry.  I actually had heard of this from a column of Martha Stewarts!  She said that after a while, detergent will build up on clothes, especially towels and it ...
