  • Re: Getting Rid of Mice

Peanut butter works great in the sticky traps....but we add stuff to it, like oats, or bird seed, or anything that might tempt them. Patrink

  • Re: Where do you buy bulk items?

I buy spices in bulk from health food stores where they either bag it for you, or you bag it yourself.  It is so MUCH cheaper that way!  I buy large bags of baking soda from Costco....each bag weighs 12 lb. and is sold primarily for swimming pools etc. but I use it for laundry and cleaning, so buy 3-4 at a time and this lasts ...

  • Re: 120 fish oil tablets & 100 selenium tablets for $2.21 total

Deb, I have been doing this for a couple of years.  I buy fish oil, calcium tablets, and flaxseed oil by Naturemade, and buy them when they are BOGOF or at least 33% off, so its a really good deal.  Glad you found out about it! Patrink
  • Re: Can you help? Darning

Kate, I was always taught to darn socks on the right side so that there would not be any lumps or bumps to irritate the feet when wearing them.  Tying knots in the thread is a no-no also for the same reason.  I was taught to make a running stitch in the fabric for a length to anchor the thread, then begin to darn. Darning cotton is best ...

  • Re: I Snagged my New Carpet

Do you have any leftover carpeting?  If so, you can cut the snagged part out of the carpet and inlay a piece cut to fit.  Elmers glue will keep it in place.  I fixed some MAJOR burn holes in my carpet that had occurred when embers flew out of my wood stove.  After the repair, you couldn't tell where the mending was. • Re: Fuel Costs

I don't anticipate much of a rise in heating costs here.  DH cut approximately 5 cords of wood a couple of years ago, when a cousin cut some trees to build a house on his property.  That wood has been seasoning nicely.  We augment with an old electric furnace so between the two sources we are really sitting pretty well.  ...

  • Re: Sunday $ Stretching 10-14

Almost the last of the baked ham and don't want to fix much of a meal tonight, so will have potato soup with ham.  No milk in the house so will use chicken broth with a little half and half to make it look creamy.  Made a dessert with pantry pudding and graham cracker crumbs and will top it with Cool Whip.  I have stretched that ...

  • Re: National Healthcare

How much does the existing health care system cost the taxpayer?  How much does it cost employers? Employees?  How much does an individual pay for self paid insurance?  The premiums paid  to insurance companies must be staggering.....otherwise, how could they finance their huge buildings and CEO salaries. In a perfect ...

  • Re: Stretching $ ... on Saturday 10-13

Stretching $ today.....I made homemade tomato soup for lunch today from a large bowlful of tomatoes from the garden.  There is enough for probably 3-4 more lunches, so saved a bundle. The only cash outlay was for onions and celery when I cooked the tomatoes. Patrink

  • Re: New stove question

I use Barkeepers Friend on mine.  It cleans very well without scratching and cleans up stuff that has burned on.  MUCH cheaper than the liquid cleaner they recommend. Patrink
