• Re: *** N Span powder still available??

Do a google on it, I found a 27 oz box of it for $5.69 at teebop.com.  Or ask the manager of your grocery store to see if they can get it in.

  • Re: Treadle machine, repair or replace?

What oil you use depends on the machine, My Dad said to use singer sewing machine oil on singers and newer machines, but to use 3n1 oil on Gramma's old raymond.  To Dad older machines meant the flying shuttle type, not the round bobbin.

  • Re: Slow Drains

Just a quick caution here.  I know you said it was in a shower drain so you should be ok dumping boiling water down the drain. But NEVER dump boiling water in a porceline sink, or toliet. Also on a side note, I can't see why any frugal household would not have an electric teakettle.  They use about a 3rd of the electricity to ...

  • Re: Furnace pilot light ... and gas bills
I. We were paying 66 cents a day just to have the pilot light seeping out natural gas in our house(it was not lit). Yikes.
Yikes indeed, How old is your furnace? Most natural gas appliances have a thermocouple that shuts off the gas supply to the pilot light when the flame goes ...
Gosh, I didn't mean to offend anyone or disrespect anyone's opnion with my earlier post, and I apologize if I did.  In fact I intended just the opposite, to tell our Canadian friends and other international visitors to this site that we welcome and respect their opinions as well, and that we ...
I'm glad to have your perspective here, since - as far as I know - you're the only one posting here who actually has first hand, real life experience with the type of national health care plan being discussed here in the U.S.
Well I think you'd be hearing more from ...

  • Re: Water Heaters... drain or not to drain?

Yes, just use a screwdriver I think these are a safety feature to keep kids from playing with it and scalding themselves.
So what I am seeing is a slotted valve stem....  where is the handwheel?  The round thing just directly below it appears to be part of the whole valve, not something that you can ...

  • Re: Water Heaters... drain or not to drain?
The valve on the bottom of the tank doesn't have a handwheel on it,
What does the drain look like? Is it a big plastic thing maybe an inch thick 3 inches in diameter, and a spout in the middle of it threaded to take a garden hose?  If so that's the handwheel, just turn the whole thing to ...
