What oil you use depends on the machine, My Dad said to use singer sewing machine oil on singers and newer machines, but to use 3n1 oil on Gramma's old raymond. To Dad older machines meant the flying shuttle type, not the round bobbin.

Just a quick caution here. I know you said it was in a shower drain so you should be ok dumping boiling water down the drain. But NEVER dump boiling water in a porceline sink, or toliet.

Most natural gas appliances have a thermocouple that shuts off the gas supply to the pilot light when the flame goes ...

What does the drain look like? Is it a big plastic thing maybe an inch thick 3 inches in diameter, and a spout in the middle of it threaded to take a garden hose?
