7 people use a Tax Person (One person does their own and uses a tax person)

12 People said they do their own.

I am pulling my tax paperwork together and will see how it goes as I try to do it myself this year.  First year in a long time, but I am tired of paying up to 200.00 for it.

So whats the worst that could happen -  I owe them.  If I do it wrong and then they bill me and I pay it.  Now don't get me wrong, I KNOW that if you owe the goverment back taxes it can turn into a nightmare and the intererst rate is HORRIBLE, but its not like I am a millionaire with that much I could possibly get wrong.

I will be sure to quickly pay if I make a mistake, so no need to worry there.  I am aware of this.

I might even do like one person did here, just do a dummy and see how I do compared to the tax guy... BUT I hate spending money on it this year.  (As I sit here and listen to my toilet make weird noises).

We shall see!  Kind of scary, but I sure could save that money!

I use TaxAct just to make sure there are no arithmetic errors. Since we have no deductions other than the standard ones we just send the short form.

OMG! No way would I even try. With the full-time job, 401K, the HSA, the farm income, the part-time independant contractors job, the rental property and mortgage interest, I surely don't want to end up in Leavenworth...My E.A. is worth every penny! I could try Turbo Tax just to check out the end result, but I really don't want to go there right now!

    Good Luck to you Mavericks!

I use to do my own dad takes his and mine to a lay who does it I don't want to screw that up like I said in my younger days I did then it was easy know you need a masters degree in to doing the math part...

Im not knocking about degrees it is depressing during tax time for me so I let someone do it for me since my accident with the car fustration comes so hard on me to do things like that so things like some math can drive me nuts so thank god for the service ...

I did my own on Turbo Tax and then I realized I was not getting back as much as last year and NOT MUCH had changed....so I took it to a professional that got me his fee and more!  I think I will leave it to him from now on.

I was gonna save, but it actually would have cost me to do it myself!

With all that you have going on in your life, if it was me I wouldn't be doing my own either. For your situation to have it done by a professional is a peace of mind, and there is nothing wrong with that.  For a person with a much simpler, less hectic life, doing it yourself isn't that difficult.
