I haven't yet gotten anything from freecycle but I have given a lot of things away.   It's helped me declutter and feel good about not chucking things - plus I didn't have to do anything other than put the item in my driveway.   And some of the items were things that goodwill wouldn't take.

    I really like the concept

We got one of our dog's from freecycle. I love it, and hope to get more involved with it as time goes on.

I LOVE Freecycle! I just got a headboard this week and painted it this weekend. It was pretty ugly when I got it and was obviously hard to get rid of for the person who gave it to me. Once I painted it a light color it became so nice and when I reupholster the padded part it will look like a million bucks!

Its true that it takes alot of back and forth. Some people want to meet you in person and others want to just get your stuff without having to see a face. I'm just happy to see things be where they can continue to be used and appreciated rather than dumped.

I was really happy that we could give a lot of my husband's old stuff to a guy who really needed it--older gentleman who had lost a lot of weight.  The husband has in the last few years decided to ONLY wear carpenter jeans, or khakis for work.  He had a ton of jeans that were slightly the wrong size and/or not carpenter, so we gave away 15 pair to someone who was facing buying all new pants!

    I love freecycle.

I also love Freecycle...our dog ate our couch and we replaced it with one from Freecycle...I'll be mad if she eats this one, but at least it won't be a hit in the wallet.  Plus she's now an outside dog when no one's home.

I've also given away things that people really needed, like 2 VZ phones for college bound kids.  What's sometimes frustrating is trying so hard to get certain things, I need bricks, and seeing them get snagged too fast for me.  But I keep trying.

Deb, I have the same problem. I have only one chair and a large table, my bed, lamps, and minimal kitchen stuff. I would love a comfotable chair, maybe a small sofa, reading lamps.

I also have some stuff to get rid of. I am registered with Freecycle, but so far haven't had the time to sit down and explore it.

And if I did find things, how would I get them home?

By the way, does Freecycle send you listings in your email, or do you have to go a site?

You can do either way - you decide in your preferences.  Some of my friends like getting the emails. I don't, so I check the site a couple times a week, or a couple times a day if I am watching for something.  When I post an offer, people who want it e-mail me, & I have learned to take at least 24 hours before I decide who gets it.

So far I have given away a stroller, some dolls, a baby swing, some elm tree starts, extra hangars, shoes, sweater, belts & 3 piles of magazines among other things.

I have not yet posted a "WANT", and have still received wire fencing, chicken wire, a chain link gate, paint, wood, the interlocking bricks used to make retaining walls, bricks, pavers, western belt buckles, a nice comforter, a knitted cotton throw blanket, bread & fruit: apples, grapes & plums, just by responding to posted offers.

I like the fact that the organization keeps "good stuff out of the landfill", but I get frustrated with those who seem to think it is their private free shopping site, posting only "want" without "offer".  As people on the site, on YOUR site, get to know you, & realize you are one of those who "offer", many are more willing to work with you.  I have had people from the next town over meet me in a park not too far from my house to drop off paint, when they were coming into my town anyway. I wouldn't ask someone to do that, but she offered & it was convenient for both of us.

Sometimes, unless it says U-haul, they might be able to deliver. Or ask friends? Neighbors?

I have been slowly getting rid of my VHS tapes. Since I expanded my cable, I have been able to record on DVD movies that I didn't want to pay for (even in the $5 bin at Walmart) and when I get them recorded the VHS tapes get posted (at least 5 at a time). I am a big freecycler. I recently posted for something I didn't expect to get and I did get... a dehumidifier (I have yet to try it out but plugged it in and a light came on). It's not something that I would use a lot and didn't want to spend $$ on.

Freecycle actually helped a stolen $$ tandem bicycle find it's owner. I found it by the dumpster of the apartment by me and someone who was in the same bicycle club pointed me to the "Lost" ad. I contacted the owner and they came over within 1/2 hr.
