I don't have a jar, but I have a tin of buttons. I thought everyone did. Smile

I have a plastic box that I keep mine in.  I remember when we were little my grandma had several jars of all kinds of buttons.  We played with them all the time when we were at her house.  We made house for them with dominos and the big buttons were the parents and the little ones the kids, the fancy ones with rhinestones were royalty and the military ones from grandpa's uniform were soldiers.  We spent hours playing with buttons.  Of course we weren't lured away by vidio games and had to use our imagination to have fun.  I hadn't thought about playing buttons in a long, long time.  It brings back a good memory.

One of the best presents I have ever received from Momma was a button jar!  She divided my Grandmother's button jar and her own button jar between me and my brothers  And I always buy buttons at garage sales.  I have no idea why since I seldom use them but I do love button jars!

When I used to crazy-quilt more, I had hoards of buttons. Love them.

Yes, button jar, box, tin, bag, basket, drawer, and just about every other receptacle I can think to put them in. Edey

I have a button box.  I love it.  Buttons make a great scrapbooking accessory!  The worst part is that I don't sew.  At all.  But at least my buttons are being used!

    Re: button jars

I started out keeping my buttons in a glass jar, just like my mother and granny, but I found the perfect container for them one day, it is a tin with buttons printed on it.  I loved to go through my granny's button jar and when she passed away my mother gifted me with all of granny's buttons.  I save them from old clothes and buy new ones that catch my eye.  When I was pregnant with DS#2 I made him a smocked nightgown to come home from the hospital in, I used mother of pearl baby buttons that had been in granny's button jar.  I also use them in my card making and scrapbooking.
