I am just thinking about my last veggie garden...it started off great, picture-perfect. Then my morning sickness kicked in and everything went downhill from there. It was so neglected and sorry...If I had to get outside to harvest herbs during that time, too--well, let's not imagine that picture...At least with herbs, they'll come back next year. You'll just have to break out that lawn mower!

I always get carried away when planning the gardens, and then don't have enough energy or time to carry through on every thing. You're right; if I can get herbs planted this year I won't have to worry about planting that area again. I don't think I'll make a border, but let them spread... hm.

Maybe I won't even need a mower in a few years! (To be honest, I don't do the mowing, I have to hire it done. I just don't have the ability to do it any more.)

Oh, I'm glad. I knew as soon as I hit "Post" I'd said it wrong.

one time while coughing quite abit a fellow told me, he'd bring me some ginger, he did, and yes it stopped the coughing...it ws just lil tea bags from the health food store, but it sure did the trick...

and my favorite of course is lemonade...soon as I feel my throat getting sore, I'm grabbing for the lemonade...in winter,  its hot water and honey, in summer its cold water and sugar...I do have some lemon balm planted here, I wonder if I could use those leaves????  hmmm, something to consider....

They sell lemon balm tea, so I don't know why not.

ebunni, it's so funny you mentioned the lemonade. Last night I boiled a cup of hot water, squirted about 6 TB of lemon juice into it, and a generous spoonful of honey. It was delicious even though it was still pretty tart, and I think it soothed my throat beautifully. I had another cup when I woke up this morning, and a third since arriving at work. I didn't even think of it as "lemonade!"

    Lynnea Berr:
a cough suppressant similar but not identical to a cough syrup with these herbs.  Note the instructions say to take only one teaspoon every hour as needed.

Lynnea, I think you must be right. I was thrown because the author calls it a "tea" in the first sentence, but it must be more like a cough syrup. I'm still baffled at finding a CUP of thyme. Thyme, as far as I know, is only sold powdered here. It would be very difficult, if not impossible, to strain it out. The oregano might be possible. I have large amounts of leaf oregano.

Horehound cough drops recipe and tutorial

I've found lots of recipes and information online about using horehound for coughs. Here is a step-by-step photo tutorial demonstrating how to make your ownc coughdrop with horehound. There are a few too many pictures - I mean, I know how to measure water and don't need a picture to show me how - but I am a visual learner and this was a really clear tutorial, if anyone was interested in it. I printed it out and put it in my household binder for later reference. http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/horehoundcoughdrops.htm

Re: Horehound cough drops recipe and tutorial

I planted horehound one year with the intention of making cough drops from it, but never did. It seemed too "iffy" at the time but I only had instructions from a book and no pictures! Wink
