That one rang a bell..one of my favorite gifts in years long past was a ruffled pink checkered country-style long bib apron a friend made me for Christmas.  It was my favorite attire when cooking for friends and is long since worn out.  A pattern probably exists for one like it.

I'm making 4 aprons this year for gifts, and probably am going to use some of those predominantly red, blue and yellow colored tablecloths from the '40's and '50's.  I've got enough of them and coordinating material to make some really interesting bib aprons, lol!  I hope they turn out like I have in mind - the tablecloths I sorta collect from yard sales and was lucky enough this past summer to hit an estate sale that had a stack of them for just a few bucks...Liz

If I sewed I would make my nail tech several aprons.

My hairdresser is hard to buy for also. However, I was told by the very first shampoo person (this was when I first started going there) that my hairdresser adored her monthly pedicures and her rum balls.

I wish that I were on a gift swap deal with some friends who sew because I'd love to be given aprons. I would be more than happy to give them quick breads and/or cookies. I may not sew, but I do make good breads and cookies.

Before you go cutting up Thomaston Mills tablecloths, take them to a couple of antique dealers and get some offers or appraisals.  They are collectors items nationwide, and sell for very good money in most urban areas.  It might be more frugal for you to sell them, take a fraction of what you get paid, and purchase more fabric. Of course, if you are having to cut out recycle fabric from badly spotted tablecloths, that's another story.  You can take a thinned-out solution of untinted hair bleach and sometimes get spots out of them.  Either way, they sound like enviable gifts!

I also love to cook... one thing I think I would suggest is to find a cute little basket at a yard sale and go to the cooking isle at Walmart and fill the basket with inexpensive little cooking gadgets... that would be a perfect gift for someone like me who loves to cook!

You are already gifting your salon service providers by regular and loyal patronage = income for them.

I have never understood the large gifting for services that you have already paid for.

Do they gift you at the holiday or discount salon services for your regular and loyal patronage?  I'm just saying...

You don't give a gift to receive one in return.  You give a gift because you want to.  I don't think she sees it as an obligation.

I used to give a gift to my nail tech every year at Christmas.  He always squeezed me in when I had time, stayed open late for me, had great conversations with him, knew me by first name, etc. and they were a very busy shop.  I appreciated his service and wanted to thank him not just with my patronage.

I do not feel obligated to give Christmas presents at the beauty salon. For some unknown wonderful reason the staff gives me birthday presents and a cake. They work very hard for their money and for them to give me a $25.00 gift certificate for a pedicure, a card, a cake, and an African Violet is something that means a lot to me. And, yes, each customer does get a gift from the shop at Christmas.

Every year the customers and the staff make goodies and take them to the shop. You can literally make a meal off the things they have to eat.

I give a smaller remembrance to the others in the shop (this year it's a thing of mixed bean soup mix) because during the year at least one of the others does my hair when my stylist is out sick or on vacation.

I feel obligated to give Mom a Christmas present plus I do love her.

I tend to give more practical presents than some people. I guess it's the way I grew up. I decided on making soup mix this year because of the rising prices of everything. I guess that I thought my soup mix would feed them for a couple of days.

By my eating at home and by watching sales I am able to afford to give presents if I so desire.

Re: I Need an Unfrugal Christmas Gift Suggestion, Please

    Hi,

I'm a first time poster, long time lurker. I'm also a former nail tech so I thought I'd add my 2 pesos.First, let me say that a gift is just that, a gift. You should

never feel obligated to give one. In my 12 years in the industry, I never thought badly of or gave lessor service to a client that didn't tip me or give me a gift. I

may be an exception to the rule, but that was my experiance. I also always gave all my clients a small trinket at the holidays( small ornament, sample size

    polish, etc.).

    Now having said all that....

I don't know what the policy is at your particular salon. But in the four I worked in, fellow workers in the salon don't normally charge each other for

services. Usually you would just pay for the products used. So, maybe a gift card for a co-workers services should be re-thought( please check the policy in

your particular Salon.). What we all really want...cash. Cash is the best gift to a service worker. Thats why we go to work.

Again, this is just my opinion, and opinion is subjective. If you enjoy giving a gift, please give one . If you don't feel comfortable with gifting or tipping, don't. If

cash works for you great, if not s'ok too Big Smile
