Just bumping this thread up. Perhaps on a positive note, we single folks can all support each other to lead a better single life atleast and share single living tips.

Hi  I have been on my own now for 6 yrs after being married for 26 yrs.  It is an adjustment to say the least but I am much happier and free to do  my own  thing.  If I want to eat salad every night I can do so without the "Rabbit food again" comments.  My daughters are grown up 28 and 25 and they were both very supportive.

In response to where do you  find someone to do all the jobs you want done but can't do - try bartering.  Look up on the computer and there may very well be a bartering community where you live that you knew nothing about.  Other wise yes look for a local handyman who is willing to do those small minor jobs.  It won't be very much and you may well find the handyman  is  a woman!!!  Ask around and you will astonished at what you find.

I like cooking for myself, I can indulge in my favourites all year round.  I do have a boyfriend but he lives in Vancouver  and I live on Vancouver Island so it is a long distance relationship for now.  I have been dating him for over a year and he is quite the guy.  He likes to cook and clean and tidy up too- unlike my ex who could only make Weetabix and coffee. LOL.

The thing I find the hardest is the fact that housing costs are so high I may never own a place by myself again.  I rent and  about the only thing I will be able to own is a mobile home maybe.  Nothing wrong with that either but the costs of even those are way up and more than I can afford at the moment.  Thank heaven for basement suites.

Recently took up motor scootering to have fun and to  save on gas and it is a real hoot.  Makes me feel like 16 again and I am 51.  Everybody take care and hugs Sally.

Hi Sally!  I live in New Westminster BC. Nice to have someone from my neck of the woods here :)  I lived in Saanichton for a 1 yr 1/2 when I was a teenager.  My mom is legally separated and enjoying every moment and we all support her!

I'm single, and have been since 1994.  I own my own home (okay, the bank owns most of it... but that'll change).  I started by buying a condo in 1997, using a new home buyer's program through the government ($3000 down - my grandfather gifted it to me, and said he was glad one of his grandchildren was using her inheritance properly) and lived in it for 6 years; sold it when mortgages hit a low point and bought a house (my long-term goal in buying the condo).  As things are going now, the house should be paid off about the time I retire (20 years or so).  That's part of my retirement plan.

I'm not really as frugal as I'd like to be with my household expenses - although I participate in a grocery certificate program with my Taekwon-Do association that is great for budgeting my groceries - I buy the certificates up front every month when I get paid, and when I run out, that's it - no more groceries!

I got myself a life size inflatable doll. She is very comfortable to hug, cuddle and sleep at night or whenever I feel lonely. At $40 bucks one of the best incredible bargains. Perhaps this might help some of the other single/frugal folks here.

Now I don't feel as lonely during holiday season's or whenever I see couples etc., I keep my doll inflated all the time, seems frugal this way. Frequent inflation and deflation might lead the doll to explode at such a low price.
