Are you stocking up yet for the Holidays?

Hi everyone. I've been lurking for quite a while, but wanted to join in the conversation, so here's my first question:

Are you stocking up yet for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays?

For instance, I've got walnuts, chocolate chips and butter in the freezer.

Hi ... I lurk alot and just started posting, too. Yes ... I've been buying more flour and sugars' for baking, along with nuts, chips and butter, too. I look at the food ad each week, match my coupons and off I go. This year, I am giving soup-mixes for presents, so have been collecting the pasta, rice, ect ... and will be ready to make them next week - yea. I am only waiting for a good deal on a ham and a turkey for both dinners.

Yep .. picked up extra flour and sugar on sale.  Cranberries are in the freezer, and got an extra bag of chocolate chips. I do need to get nuts.  I'm also a bit worried that my yeast is losing its punch, so I may have to get more.

At the moment, we have a turkey breast in the freezer, and there's enough in the pantry to handle a holiday dinner .... maybe not all our "traditional" dishes, but it would be a good dinner.

Actually, I plan to start this in November. We just simply haven't had any "good" sales on the stuff yet. Although I'll probably get my walnuts & pecans at Aldi, unless Kroger puts them on sale for less.

Welcome to the forums, Budgetwise!  I'm glad you decided to join in with us. Smile

I have started some stocking.  Chocolate chips seem to have been on sale several times this year, so I've been buying and freezing as I go along. 10 lb. bags of sugar were on sale for $3.00 (normally $2.00 for a 5 lb. bag) last week, so I bought a ten pound bag.  I see flour is on sale this week, so I might buy a bag or two to supplement my (multiple) open bags. Confused

We still have candy left over from last nights trick-or-treat, but now the candy is going to clearance down tomorrow.  Small reese's cups, hershey bars and kisses will be great to use in baking, so I'll probably stash some more of those.  Plus we  like having a filled candy dish and candy for stockings around the holidays, and everything should keep fine until Christmas in a cool dry place.

I'm planning to reorganize the pantry this weekend so I can see where I need to fill in holes and make room for the holiday loss leaders.

I have, although most of what I'm stocking up on are things that I use for baking low carb treats. I use sugar substitutes and almond flour and a bake mix called Carbquik, and I've started buying extras of those things so I can make some treats that won't wreak havoc with our blood sugar. I'm also buying lots of nuts, and am happy to see the fresh cranberries coming back into the stores! Love those...

    Welcome to the forums!

I've got a lot for the holidays already, most of it though are things that I always try to stock anyway.  I got sugar on sale several months ago, I bought 20 lbs and still have at least 15 lbs left.  I bought a 6 lb bag of chocolate chips too from Costco not long ago . . . they have the best price in my area for them and also they had a coupon for an additional $2 off.  I use them year round but also a lot at Christmas.  I also bought from Costco a large bag of sugar cookie mix, it was around $5.50 and makes 15 dozen cookies.  That I bought for us to be able to make cookies with cookie cutters whenever the mood strikes.  I like to bake with the kids (mostly DS as my DD is still a little young but does love "helping"!)-it's a great activity for rainy, cold winter afternoons.

Just today, I bought 2 bags of all purpose flour on sale.  Name brand for $2.50 for a 5 lb bag.  That's a good price here-I might grab another one or two before the sale ends.

Otherwise, I can't think what else I might need.  I'll definitely buy cranberries when they go on sale for the freezer.  I love having them available to make sauces, muffins, breads, etc.

I do need to start thinking about non food items-ribbon, baskets/tins, etc.  Need to start organizing myself!
