    How Old Do You Feel?

My cousin was lamenting about turning 50 and it got me thinking. How old do yo feel mentally, emotionally and physically? Are you in better or worse shape? What things make you feel old? (music, TV shows, technology etc) Do you remember your parents being the age you are now? Did they seem old to you back then? Are you more open or jaded in your views and opinions?

I'm old. Smile No way around it. My parents had to move to town when Mom was about the same age as I am now. I didn't think they were old, just older and wiser. My views are definitely more jaded. I've seen enough of life to see that things are very seldom what they seem, but it's all good, regardless. Sure beats the alternative. Wink

Most days I feel young. I think having a baby at age 41 helped with that for a while. All her friends parents are way younger than DH and I. I also work witih little kids so Im keeping on the go a lot. I think that I feel oldest when I look at my Mom. She is 84 and in poor health. Makes you think about the future in a different way. My Dad became very sick when my Mom was the same age as I am now. I hope that I dont have to experience what she went through any time soon. It made her age a lot quicker than she should have. Her health went downhill as she had to care for him. Babs

It was a shock to get a Golden Buckeye card -- the State sends them out a month prior to the 60th birthday.  At the time I didn't feel that old.  With the year's events, however, my hair has been turning rapidly.  Sister said I was grayer than she is; I've always prayed for my paternal Grandma's white hair, though I don't really want bluing, lol.

It depends upon the day.  Some days the feeling is a decrepit 81 (recognizing that all 81 y/os are not decrepit) other days a spunky 29.  Smile

I take things one day at a time. Some days I feel as though I'm 100. Those are the days when Mom has been trying or other things have happened. Other days I don't feel old. I feel old on cold or damp days because I have severe arthritis. I get my arthritis from both sides of my family.

I am wise enough to realize that I couldn't live in a split level house anymore. I lived in one years ago. I can manage a 2 story house by having a chair lift elevator. I have grab rails in all 3 bathrooms and I have shower chairs in 2 of the chairs.

I will say this. I couldn't keep up with replacing rolls of toilet paper when there were 4 of us in the house. These days I can keep up with the toilet paper because it's just me, but I do miss having my family in the house with me. Two family members are dead and Mom is in a nursing home. Mom and I swore that my step-father and half-brother could look at a full roll and the next minute it was empty.Wink

Dear All, I aim to live to be a centernarian.  Therefore, my current age of Heinz 57 Varieties only feels like being a young adult.  For all of the ailments I have, I still have basic good health.  I heal very much more quickly than most people do, all my health care providers always comment.  Except for my short-term memory & my aphasia over events before my brain injury that I haven't yet been reminded of, my mind, praised be the L-rd, works just fine!  I can walk very far & very fast.  True, the last 2 items are due to the wonderful medications cocktail that my personal physician, Peter, has worked out for me.  But Hashem (the L-rd) brought me to him, & sustains him so that he can work with me.  Yours in Him, Deb

I thought your question was interesting and enjoyed reading the responses.   I am 56 and most of the time, I feel younger..but there are times, I feel dead!

I adopted two kids. The oldest is 8 yrs old and I got him when he was 5 months old and the youngest will be 4 the end of January. I have had her since birth. They are very active kids and my little boy is challenged as he has Shaken baby syndrome and Autism..My daughter is his 1/2 bio sister. .They can keep me hopping and then in the end, I know I am blessed.

     Dear Virginia..

On the arthritis..I have RA....When my doctor told me this as I went in in severe pain and swelling..I immediately started taking flaxseed oil. The next morning I had felt relief. I started reading forums and added other things like fish oil and zinc and vitamins for bones.  So far, I rarely take anything outside of sometimes taking a naproxin.. Perhaps the flaxseed oil will help you out.  My mom has osteoarthritis and feels relief from flaxseed as well..
