I'd feel the same way if they only time I made banana pudding was at Christmas.  But that's not the case, I HAVE to bring it to every single family get together we have all year long.  And most of the time I have a least one BIL complain that the pudding needs more cookies.  The last time I made it I used 2 whole boxes of vanilla waffers (yes, the pan holds THAT MUCH pudding) and he STILL complained.  Most of the time the only desserts we have at a family gathering is the banana pudding and sometimes SIL will make a 7 day coconut cake. Sometimes I just WANT to make and EAT any other dessert other than banana pudding.

Dear ALl, For Chanukah, Jews eat fried foods, in commemmoration of the oil that lasted for 8 days instead of just 1 (in reconsecrating the Temple).  Potato latkes (pancakes, somewhat like hash browns) are big with Ashkenazi Jews (Eastern Europeans, English, other European countries except Spain & Portugal); doughnuts are big with Sephardic Jews (Spain, Portugal, Israel & the Near East, North Africa).   Yours in Him, Deb

Oh my, when I read Deb's line about Potato Latkes it brought tears to my eyes! My mom, used to make them for our family in the winter often. Dad just loved them, and my brother and I really didn't care for them. Dad's been gone for many years and mom is in an assisted living facility where she can no longer cook. I have a real craving for those pancakes. I'll have to look for a recipe, and try my hand at it.

Mom would often make Kasha for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is a buckwheat product. Sort of bland, but very good topped with a rich turkey or ham gravy. It is almost impossible to find in Central Illinois. Grocers have no clue what I'm talking about. I did find it in the Chicago area a few years back at a Jewel store.

On Thanksgiving - it must be Turkey w/stuffing. On Christmas Eve it must be posole, and tamales. This is New Mexico's comfort food and it is not Christmas Eve without posole. Tamales when we are flush w/extra cash.
