Ditto Deb!   what they said goes for me!  no one here judges you for accepting food stamps!   You have a true need and don't abuse your benefits.

Deb, I agree with what the others have said.  You do an outstanding job stewarding your food stamps.

     Dear Deb,

Just a reminder - Tzedaka requires us to accept charity if we are old or sick or cannot provide for ourselves.  We are all doing what g-d would have us do to care for ourselves.

A blessing to you and greetings at this time of year, too. Coming to this forum has made such a difference for me!

my card was filled today and i used it for my monthly groceries.  i dont go shopping weekly i do it all at once and get it over with so i was gone for 4 hours today shopping now im tired and i have alot of meats that need to be devided and froze still  then i need to inventory and get my monthly menu going.  i should know soon how much i will get monthly for a regular amount.  i had a rent increase this past month along with i now pay my own utilities and my son has medical transportaion costs that i didnt know would help us out.  so i am not sure what im going to be getting.  the application also said if you recieve or are applying for heating assistance this year that it can help the amount your going to get in food stamps and this is the first year i have applied for it.  thankyou  have a good sunday

Dear Seaturtle, Well, you're right that I'm doing something wrong, although it seems to me to be more an error in not being humble, rather than an error in justice (that's what tzedakah really means).  Thanks for the reminder.  I will take it to heart.  Yours in Him, Deb

    Re: October Food Stamps

Looking at my schedule at church, I realized that for the rest of the month dh, who starts his new job tomorrow, will be on 6 day weeks.  I'll have extra kids for one or two more weeks, up to 9 from 7, and felt that it would make sense to go stock for the month today rather than try to carry so much money over- So I spent $112 in fs, I have $65 left until 10/13.

Bought half or more of my October list, bought baking cocoa, baking premelted envelopes, flour, two powdered sugar, sour cream, creamer, milk, two juice, eggs, nutmeg, 3 bags of bagels, one pack of little pineapple juices for lunches- other lunchbox things- pretzels, two boxed entrees for long days one a peanut satay one a ginger noodle dish, trail mix, an easy mac cup, candy, little bags of popcorn to pop at work or school, other items were sugar, 5 pounds of apples, two Halloween oreos, carmels for carmel apples, 4 frozen pizzas, a giant back of cheese sticks, coffee creamer, marshmellow cream, cooking spray,  fruit strips for the toddler, popcorn, popping oil, cherry pie filling, a giant container of parmesan, and buy one get one packs of gum for Christmas stockings.

It feels good to have a stocked pantry for the next few weeks, now I could be on the pantry challenge!

Dear Tracy LateNIghtLeader, Go for it, girl!  Your purchses were wise.  With your dh finally starting a job near home, it's time for some celebration!  Lucky that you're a baking wizard!  Good luck to dh!  Love in Him, Deb

     Deb,

Not wrong, just human!  That's why we need reminders...and you're right about the humility, thanks.  That's such a difficult one to catch myself at - it takes such humility to recognize my lack of it, if you know what I mean.

    Shalom,

     Seaturtle

Dear Seaturtle, Our Sages say that one should try to cure oneself of currying favor from others by doing something weird & accepting stares.  An example that they give is to walk down the street (wearing shoes), dangling a sneaker by one of its laces ....  A lack of currying favor goes a long way towards humility.  Yours in Him, Deb
