Hello, All, Deb, I hope you find a permanent answer soon, am glad at your success at getting meals. I went to Goodwill today. They had a sale of all white-ticket items for $1.49. I got a good pair of lined, waterproof winter ski pants, an LL Bean windbreaker, a red coroudory jacket and a good sweatershirt. They didn't charge me for the wind breaker, since it had a few small holes in it. They also gave me a food bag that they issue every two weeks. My food stamp increase is for $14.00, which will help out, since my rent is being increased $50.00 next month. Also went to local food shelf and got three small bags. They used to give out a lot more, but with the cuts in food bank supplies from the government, they now give a lot less. I found out about a Commodities Program given at a local church, and am going to apply for that. I['ve stockpiled a lot of cans of beans and oatmeal and peanut butter from a Boxes and Cans store recently, so I am fixed in case of a reduction - or if the entire economy collapses on us. So I am blessed today, and I hope everyone is doing well, too. Seaturtle

I, too have lots of cans, pb, oatmeal, noodles, a few bags of dry milk, a freezer with corn, potatoes (mashed), green beans, and a variety of items from the grocery store, including syrup, soup, instant potatoes, tons of dry cereal. If everything collapses, we'll be fine for a few months! If everything collapses, I wonder if we would move south, since we wouldn't be able to pay our MN heating bills? Wonder what will happen if there is a global crash? Would our government issue a new "dollar"? Sad to think of, but it seems change is in the air. I think some members of our community depend on the outside for so little they would be fine, but I question what would happen to basic utilities, and how long people would be civil to each other? Anyway, we can be very thankful for how we are doing so far, and let tomorrow worry about itself, maybe!

Hello,Tracy, I agree: we are so used to making do and living on so little that we'd have much less of a problem surviving than the folks who just never had this experience. Moving south - I am in Vermont, and it's supposed to be a hard, very cold, long winter. I'd sure move south if I could, but on SSI?I guess we're all frightened of what's so come. All we can do is go on as we can, and hope and pray that things turn around. Well, think of how worrisome it would be to be sitting around watching the Dow Jones and worrying about our investments, lol. got to find some humour somewhere here. I"m going to continue to stockpile as I can, and have all the emergency stuff (flashlights, can openers, water) I might need. My main worry is that the utitlities go out. Blesings to you, Seaturtle

Dear Sea Turtle, Thanks for your good wishes. See "Oct Debacle" for my update.
Yes, use all teh charitable food that you can find.
I'm glad about the thrift store finds. You can use appliques (either from a sewing shop -- they are pretty cheap -- or that you sew yourself, to mask the holes on the LLBean jacket.
How much is your total Food Stamps allotment? Just $14? Are you single?
I'm sorry to hear that your rent is going up by so much.
Yours in Him, Deb

Dear Tracy, Not being a Christian, I can't quote Jesus right on this, but I know that he said something like --
And do not worry about the morrow. G-d will grant you all that you need of clothing [& heating]. Does your Heavenly Father not gild hte lillies in the field. Consider the sparrows, how G-d grants them their food.
Told you that I don't know your Scriptures! Forgive! Love in Him, Deb

deb, here is the verses you were talking about , you did great hon!!!
(Jesus said:) "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
- Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
- Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
- So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
- Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
- Therefore do not worry, saying, `What shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `What shall we wear?' For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
- But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
- Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." (Mt 6.25-34)
"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows." Matthew 10:28-31
Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say to you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.American King James Version,luke12:27

I, for one, am very grateful for those promises. It's so good to read them again. (Thanks, Dixie!)
