I bought 2 big things of Utz Cheez Puffs for New Year's. They look like mini barrels. For $5.99 each I got myself 2 more storage containers.Wink

I already had 3 others from 2007. This gives me a total of 5 containers.

I can use one for powdered sugar. I'll use a second one for bread flour.IdeaI'm not sure what I'll use the other 3 for, but I now have big storage containers for just buying some junk food.

Now that I actually have a container for bread flour, I can start buying it when I see it on sale.Wink

    Joyous:
About the only thing I use white sugar for is coffee and tea. Could I really be using THAT MUCH sugar in my hot drinks?
Nothing makes you more aware of sugar intake than being diagnosed with Diabetes and then you discover how much sugar (or high fructose corn syrup) is in everything. I've never gotten into baking so a five pound bag lasts me a year.

you would be amazed how much sugar you go though when you put sugar in hot drinks. I don't except reg tea but don't drink that much.  but when dh and other roommates would do it, i was always going though sugar and I only go though a few lbs a year.

Agreed! Our largest sugar use is the coffee.

.................i only have sugar in my quad lattes about once a month or so when i decide i actually want the milk steamed (this is a rarety for me) then its only about a teaspoon or so...........frank uses 2 tablespoons or so of flavored coffee creamer in his coffee

so far for this year we have 15 boxes of pasta stocked up....but we eat pasta 2-3 times a week (one box usually covers us for the week, occasionally we need 2), we have 4 small bottles of coffee creamer in the deep freezer and 6 large bottles also frozen(the small ones last frank about a week and a half the large ones lsst 2-3 weeks.......not sure what else we have managed to stock up this year, i HAD 6 8-packs of juice, but when i have a housefull of kids like i have in the last 2 weeks, those are almost gone and i only have one 8-pack left

keeping a steady going food stock is more difficult when you have a house full of extra kids!! (my best friend is at my house all the time and her kids always come too ----but she buys some foods for all of us too so it balances out )

I decided I'm going to get serious about stocking up... I cleared out a space in my kitchen, and made a list of what I want.

I can't really do $5 per week because I don't grocery shop that often, but I think trying it on under $10 per grocery trip should be reasonable, since it's just me here. And some of the things I have on my list are a little more expensive. This is just a starter list, the things I use most often. Dish soap and beans are at the bottom because I already have decent stockpiles of those.

    Canned tomatoes
    Canned salmon
    Canned crab
    Salsa
    Splenda/sugar substitute
    Peanut butter
    Toilet paper
    Paper towels
    Shelf stable soy milk
    Dish soap
    Dried beans

you also have to remember how many you are feeding.  When I was single $5 of pasta went a very long way.

That's a good point... I think I should do some research into whether things on my list expire, even though most of it is canned.

This is an interesting topic.  I'm going to have to sit down and make a list and start stocking up at the $5 to $10 per trip to the store.  Of course I will also need to figure out some storage solutions!
