    Re: October Budget

We have met all of our obligations this month so I am going to count the paychecks we get on the 26th towards the October budget.

    Outgoing:

    • 928.00   mortgage
    • 100.00   electric
    • 56.00   natural gas
    • 90.00  cable/internet/phone
    • 150.00   accident
    • 100.00   student loans
    • 250.00   debt
    • 190.00   auto loans
    • 600.00   auto insurance
    • 180.00   petrol
    • 250.00   groceries and supplies
    • 300.00   entertainment/ misc
    • 300.00   pet vaccinations/grooming (no, it's not usually this much!!)
    • 250.00   savings

    Incoming:

    • 3000.00 Mark's income
    • 850.00  My income
    • 500.00  Rental income
    • 100.00 Recycling Income

    Totals:

    • 3744.00 Outgoing
    • 4750.00 Incoming
    • 706.00 Excess

It looks like we should have quite a bit of excess in October...but it never seems to work out the way it looks.  I am hoping that I can keep myself in check and put that extra money into savings.  It would finish my goal of a baby emergency fund of $1500.  I estimated high on the discretionary outgoing funds and low on the incoming funds, so we will just have to see how things pan out.

aint that the truth!    just curious.... why is your car insurance so high? Insurance here isn't cheap but we are paying about $250 a mth for two older vehicles.

    Re: October Budget

Well, under the Sept budget I multiplied my husband's weekly raise by 6 weeks, AND forgot to mention that it was the first month the car was paid off so that's why we had some extra money, at least on paper. Geez! I was thinking we were set for life! lol. Reality time:

    For October:

    Fixed

Mortgage: 1200 (principal, interest, tax, insurance)

Utilities:      740 (electric/gas, cable, phones, cells for us and three kids)

Savings:     700 (emergency fund, general fund, tax/insurance fund for other property, cars, etc.)

Debt:         600  (credit card) (balance after payment will be around 4200)

    Variable:

    Gas:          300

    Food:         400

Other:        300  (medical, vet, repairs, oil changes)

    Extra:

Car Insur:   660 (for two cars, for six months)

Total:  4900 (possibly more as I do try to help out my college student children.)

Income:  6074 with writing income, DH job and my other jobs

We are currently building up a $4000 emergency fund savings account, and at the same time trying to pay down the credit card debt. Once we hit $4000 in the emergency fund then will hold on that and switch extra $ to credit card. Paid off car last month. Later we will add to mortgage principal payment on a regular basis. Still need some house repairs, upgrades, etc. but will have to wait to fund those for several months, I think. Still....we are at a new level of peace in our financial lives. (finally)

It is actually the premium for three months with two newer ('03 and '01) and one older vehicle (''97) on it.

    Re: October Budget

October should look better than Sept as we had to pay off some utility bills from the old house.

    • Mortgage (including taxes) $1100
    • tuition/daycare $1200
    • Church/charity $200
    • Cable/phone/internet $100
    • Gas: $75
    • Electric $116
    • Cell phones $70
    • Garbage $17
    • Life Ins: $150
    • Auto Insurance: $150 (2 cars)

    Total expected: $3178

    • Groceries: $400
    • Supplies: $100
    • Personal: $200
    • Gasoline: $300
    • Entertainment: $100

    Total flexible: $1100

    Total expenses: $4278

I increased supplies, personal and entertainment based on September's numbers. We are still less than our income so some breathing room at the end of the month.

    Re: October Budget

Did my October budget today, and through Feb.  We are running a deficit through Feb, from about $2,500 in October to just over $100 in Feb.  We are talking about borrowing from the 401K to cover the expenses, I can't see putting that much on credit.

Any advice?  These are minimal expenses, the must pays.  Mortgage and rent in October, although we are out the 1st of October in order to break the lease.  Heat, electric, internet is $37 for the 3 or us who need it for work and volunteering, and the 4 who need it for school.  Actually, dd will help pay it.  That is the only "luxury" item.  $10-$15 a month per two cells, we are both out of the house a lot, I budget $30. Phone, garbage, water, dentist.   Minimums on three credit cards.

I did give notice to my nonpaying daycare boy today, I have given them a month, 6 weeks with the time before school started.  I have a dislocated worker meeting on Tues, will apply for some more jobs next week.  I need to find out if I can get childcare help.

This does not include prescriptions, doctor copays, the car breaking down, Christmas entertaining or gifts, gifts for the four girls with birthdays in Oct-January.  It does not include any of the nonfood items we use, pet food, diapers, TP, laundry soap.  All these will have to be credit, as will school pictures- $21 times 4, a bang trim before pictures for two girls, by a professional- $5 each, new work boots for dh, his are glued, any field trips or snack money for school.

By Feb, we'll be fine, but not until then.  Looking for advice.  I'll be applying at daycares, if I can make a profit there with my one and three year old at the center with me, I doubt I can make much profit.  I found a job maybe to watch kids during a mom's group, but that is just $20 week.   Whenever I run the second income, does it pay, I always wind up at least $8,000 in the red working, as calculated on those calculators.  I have two more years with two at home full time.  I also have two that would need some before or after school care.

Any advice is appreciated- cinnamon huskies, erika, brandy, any thoughts?
