Re: October Food Stamps debacle
Deb, Was just wondering if your brother had any enlightening thoughts on the subject? Hope to hear soon that things are resolved, but am happy to hear your stock is such a healthy mix! I am impressed with what you have saved. I hope your paper statement comes early!

Re: October Food Stamps debacle
Dear Tracy MFL & Cynthia CheapChic, Thank you for your good wishes & kindness.
Dear Tracy, My Darling brother & I have been discussing the various food programs I could go on, & how I could get on a vegetarian program (so that there would be only minimal Kosher problems). The best is from Jewish Family & Children's Services, &, since I'm "an alumna," I can probably go back on without too much trouble. They provide 2 bags of "produce" (mixed in with bread & some goodies) weekly, plus another 2 bags 2ce/month. The 2ce/month bags come together w 4 meat meals; the produce bags come together with 6 Meals on Wheels meals; but none of that is Kosher (well, some of it may well be, but because I don't havea Kosher Meat kitchen, I still couldn't eat it), so I would ask only for the produce bags. From what I've read about Angel Food, AF doesn't have veggie choices. We used to have the SHARE program here (which had a veggie program), but I don't know if it still exists. There is also the possibility of Project Open Hand -- but I don't think I'm ill enough -- & the Commodities program -- I don't know how to get on it, but certainly could find out.

Re: October Food Stamps debacle
I was excited to find out that Angel Food was coming here, only to find out that you need to order a regualr or senior package to get the produce package. I hope the Share program is still there, otherwise the Jewish Services seems to be very helpful. Is it at times you have an aide to help you pick up? Good research, by the way-

Re: October Food Stamps debacle
Dear Tracy, LateNightLeader, Jewish Family & Children's Services was able to deliver when I used them pre-Food-Stamps. I don't know about now.
And, yes, my aide would go with me to pick up from whatever source(s) I can find. I have 7-day/week aide, so there shouldn't be any problem.

How long would the food stamps last covering the rest of your food needs if you were able to get this program?

Re: October Food Stamps debacle
Dear Brandy, The $14 or whatever Food Stamps gives me monthly will last through June; that's when I'm certified to. Yours in Him, Deb (I'd go on a program or more than one if I were only gettg $14, FS would understand that.)

How long would the amount you have right now leftover last with the food program you mentioned? I am wondering if you have enough to stretch a bit while this is sorted out. I am still sure it will be especially once you are past the issue with the doctor's payments.

Re: October Food Stamps debacle
Dear Brandy, All that I NEED to buy is yoghurt once a week. $14 covers that. With the $17.83 I have left, I can frequent the Cala/Ralphs/Kroger clearance shelf daily, & pick up a true bargain when it shows up. I would like to wait until the 1st when I see how much is added to my EBT card ($14? $162?) to apply to Jewish Family & Children's Services. You see, the appeals form states that if they give me the full amount ($162), & I lose the appeal, I am liable to repay the difference ($148), & where would I get that from? I just feel that I need to be able to tell Jewish Family & Children's Services the whole story.
What do you & other folks think about this? Yours in HIm, Deb

If it were my situation...
I think I too would wait and see what amount is added to the card on the 1st. If it's the full amount, I don't think I would want to touch it out of concern that I would have to pay it back just in case something went wrong.
I feel for you in this, Deb. It's a stressful situation and while I still feel it will be ok in the long run, getting there is the hard part.
