    Field Trip Ideas

Thinking about places we could go for field trips. My daughter learns by doing.

    • museums
    • art galleries
    • Bing Crosby's childhood home
    • Bread factory
    • salad dressing factory
    • TV/Radio Stations
    • Wolf sanctuary
    • fish hatchery
    • Botanical gardens
    • Japanese Gardens
    • Wildlife preserve
    • art tour
    • historical tour (both of these provided by the city)
    • Cabela's outdoor store (sounds crazy but they are supposed to have a fantastic aquarium and animal diaroramas (sp)

That's all that pops in my mind at the moment. What are you doing for field trips?

Cabela's is awesome! at least the one we went to in Hamburg PA is. Even though my own kids went to public school, I always brought them to where I worked. I worked for a local PBS TV station so they got to see what goes on behind the scenes. If you have any local colleges, sometimes they offer programs for kids or have certain displays.

we have lots of local colleges actually Bing Crosby's childhood home is actually on one of the campuses. Last year I took her to a free geology lecture last year at one of the local cc. Not sure she understood all of it, but thought it would be a good experience for her.

My daughter's school always does a field trip to the local fire station; they do special tours for kids and they get a cute red helmet to take with them when it's all done.  Sometimes police stations do the same thing and part of the tour is making one of those kits that has their picture and fingerprints in it; they take it home and give it to their parents for safe-keeping.

Looks like you already have a lot to keep you busy!

Farm and factory tours can be very interesting.  (There are so many different kinds!)

May I suggest a hospital? This would be especially interesting for older students.  The personnel department will organize a tour of x-ray, laboratory, ER, OB, medical, dietary, physical therapy units within a medical community. You could even have lunch there, as many hospital now have food courts. This type of field trip might inspire future career choices in the medical field.
