Do You Sew Aprons? Where Do You Get Your Patterns for Them?

Do you sew aprons? Where do you get your patterns for them? Do you wear an apron when you cook?

    I do not sew aprons.

I have seen those printed aprons at the fabric stores that you sew the bindinding to and add fabric paint (glitter) and trims to.

I wear an apron to cook in.

I cut up an old apron a long time ago and used that to make a couple of aprons. Now I just sort of "eyeball" it, since they don't need to fit precisely. I've adjusted the idea to suit my level of skills, too. The first one had a piece that went behind the neck that was narrow and rounded. It's so hard to hem something like that, so now I make it a string type, like a narrow apron string. I make pockets in them now, too.

For me, an apron without pockets is like a stove without cookware. I need pockets.

Almost all of the major pattern companies make patterns for aprons.  They should be in the crafts or home decor areas of the pattern books.  They are super easy to make!  No I don't wear one when I cook, I always have a towel over my shoulder like my mom did when she cooked.  Kind of like when you burp a baby.  It is always there, but out of the way.  It isn't long so it doesn't get in the way when you bend over or anything.

Let go of your troubles, let God take your cares. Pray everyday.

I use Simplicity 7052 - plug it into Google and have a look as I couldn't get the link to take.  I make the bib apron for my dm and for bridal shower gifts, if I'm sure the bride-to-be actually cooks, lol!  The butcher-type apron I've down-sized to make for kids.  The standard apron is just the bib apron - without the bib.  I've made them all and the pattern has sizes S-M-L and can be adjusted either way, especially if the recipient is, uhhmm, well-endowed in certain areas Surprise.

I didn't realize my pattern was 'vitage', lol!  It's dated 1985, but most apron styles are classic.  Like the OP said, just check the craft/hobby/home sections of any pattern book...Liz

I wear either an apron or chef's jacket, depending where I am and what I am doing. I also, as one other poster mentioned. always have a towel over my shoulder (it's easier to find than my oven mitts most of the time).

I haven't sewed any aprons because I tend to either get them as gifts (it's a gift-giving favorite once folks find out I cook for living), or find them in thrift store for $.50. Someday, I'll likely make some for myself sometime this winter so I can add some features I'd like: tong loops, rag tag, and thermometer pocket.

After seeing the $18 price, I went through my old patterns and chose a dress pattern to cut for over-the-head specifications. Instead of tying the front and back pieces of the apron at the side, I will make tabs to sew on both back side pieces and then button to the front piece. $18 and P&S saved.

Thanks for posting the pattern link.
