Do you ever get asked to show ID when you use your debit/credit card?

I am really curious about this. I can count on one hand the number of times I  have been asked to show my ID when buying something using my debit/credit card. When I have been asked, the clerk usually apologizes  to me for having to ask! I always say that I have no problem with them requiring me to show ID, and that I wish more business's would ask. With all the problems with credit card theft and fraud I don't understand why  more employers do not train their employees to do this. Maybe they think it will offend too many customers and lose business over it? Do you ever get asked for ID?

Yes, with the credit card. No with the debit card. And always when writing a check. Edey

Dear All, The only time in my memory when I was asked for ID to back up my credit card was at a thrift store where I bought my beautiful Jil Sander shoulder bag back about 6 weeks ago.  This store is run by an elite private school.  Yours in Him, Deb

I've been asked a few times when my signatures worn off. And it never fails its when I've run in with only my card to buy something and my purse/wallet/licsense is out in the car.  I do find it annoying, more because its an inconvenience and really that's my problem not theirs. Wink

I find it even more annoying when businesses have a minimum to use your card. I understand why, because they have to pay for the transaction. But it is against their agreement with Visa & Mastercard and they can be fined or have their access to accept credit cards taken away.  I've reported more than one business for minimums.

Some stores always ask for ID, but others never ask.

I actually am looking forward to if places check. I have my signature on the back of my debit card and the letters "CID" (see id). I learned this when I was in the Twin Cities since some don't even sign the back of the card. I always asked for ID then since I wanted to check the name.

Yes on my debit card sometimes, always at hot topic and sometimes at staples.  They say its because the back of the card isn't signed.

Most of the time I'm not asked, but I always have my i.d. out anyway and I give them dirty looks and say things like "Umm, can you check my i.d. please and keep identity theft down."  The only place I don't bother is my local WalGreens and Blockbuster b/c the clerks all know me and my DD and I know them.  The clerks at my local Kroger are getting to know me really well, too.
