    Your Best Buy Ever

What's your best frugal buy ever?

Mine was a $5 AU velours pullover, a lovely burgundy colour, that I bought at a boot sale. The seller was a nice American woman who'd been here on a year's work exchange. I've worn that jumper for three years, every autumn and spring (its a bit light for winter), and it is my favorite thing, comfy and cosy, and looks nice. Its starting to get a bit threadbare in places and I'll be so sad when it is finally worn out!

My best non-frugal buy was an expensive pair of hiking boots. I started wearing them around to 'break them in' and discovered that my back pain dramatically improved. I've been wearing them for about five years and I should probably get another ten out of them.

Over the years, I have had many, since I regularly buy gently used clothing, or second hand furniture etc.  The only things in my house that are new are the appliances!  Anyway, my most recent frugal buy was a dilly.....I bought 10 bras on ebay, all the same size save 3.  Those three I gave to a friend, the rest fit perfectly and that is saying a lot.  Over the years I must have spent a fortune on bras that DID  NOT FIT.  Anyway, the total cost for 10 brand new bras (the lady owned a lingerie store, going out of business) was $22.50, so each bra cost $2.25!!!  These were all high end Jockey bras, much too pricy for me had I bought them in a regular store.  I will guard these with my life, wash in cold water, hang to dry, so they will last.

I forgot to add I recently bought a black jacket/blouse at Good Will, brand new that I expect great things from.  The tag says dry clean only, but I washed it in cold water and it came out just fine and no ironing.  Hopefully it will be my next best buy!

My best frugal buy ever...hmmm, I have 2 things. One was my brand spanking new dishwasher that, after rebate, which I already got back, was a whopping $123, the other was my kitchen floor. 200 sq ft. for a whopping $20 on clearance at Lowes.

    My best buy EVER...

I bought almost $300 worth of lee jeans from lee.com for $50 and free shipping. When entering coupon codes, they stacked them together giving me almost 90% off. They fixed the glitch later that morning, but my order went through!

My best deal was a Foley food mill I got at Value Village for $1.99.  The amount of time it has saved me when putting up the applesauce in the fall is amazing (even my Mom was impressed when we did her applesauce)

It's a tie - one really cheap, the other just a really good deal.  The cheap one was a pair of Nike Air sneakers that I found in a school's clothing sale.  I'd never bought that way before, but they were only $2.  And they lasted another 2 or 3 years.

One the other end of the spectrum, we needed a new bed, and our house made it difficult to get pieces upstairs without damaging walls.  A queen size with special folding foundation was incredibly expensive.  But while poking around at a deep discount store in our area (Building 19 for those of you in New England) we found a heavy metal bedframe for only $170. Then we started putting together bed rails, two twin foundations and a pillowtop mattress.  The whole thing cost us $695. We priced out the bed later, in search of a missing finial, and found that it listed at $1200.  King size mattresses and foundations from full retail could run us around $2500. Instead of $3700 (plus $25 for some finials), we paid just under $700 - an 80% markdown.

Patrink, I have bought many pieces of clothes very cheaply that said dry clean only. I have never taken any item to the cleaners, I have hand washed every one of those and have not yet had any problems.

Last week at a thrift store--I found a gorgeous pair of brand new-not ever worn black gucci pumps.  These shoes retailed at 450.00....I looked them up online.  I paid 20.00.  And I am laughing because I DON'T WANT TO WEAR THEM--in case I scuff them up!!

This same thrift store 2 yrs ago--I bought a beautiful solid oak hutch that had the glass windows in front broken out and was very dusty....otherwise PERFECT--so I took it for 60.00 and stapled old lace curtains to the inside, where the glass should have been--and it is in my house where I get compliments on it everytime anyone sees it!
