    RISING FOOD COSTS? ANYONE NOTICED?

    Hi

I think since this is my first time - I kinda posted this same issue twice....by accident

Just wanted to know if anyone else had noticed a tremendous increase in food costs lately...

Prices of loss-leader chicken (even though I'm not eating it, I still notice the price!) has gone from 59cents to 69cents.  Lemons & limes are 33cents each instead of 49cents/lb.  (That one really hurts me!)  Corn on teh cob has gone frmo 25cents each to 33cents each, & with corn harvest being in such delapidated condition, it probably will rise as the demand rises (as the summer progersses).  Watermelon is 49cents a lb instead of 25cents, although that one probably WILL go down over the summer.  Pasta on sale has gone from 50cents to 79cents.  Chocolate chips have almost doubled in price.  These are just some of the price increases that I see on my Cala/Ralphs/Kroger cash register reciepts recently.

I've noticed for the past 3 months. The news said to prepare for rising bread prices as corn and grain prices are going up again. For me, that means yet another rise in livestock feed expense.

Looks like we still have a problem with blank posts. Here's a workaround to use temporarily:

<><> I was watching the news tonight and one headline was about Rising Food Cost. They were saying to expect food cost to rise at least 7% over the summer. One reason is that corn is now being used for fuel so animal feed cost will rise. This will be seen in prices of meat, corn, dairy products.  If you read lables, corn is in many things in different forms. This just makes these discussions more important for all of us.

Yes, skim milk has gone from $2.08 a gallon to $2.68 just since February.

Has anyone noticed a jump in fresh produce prices? They're usually lower this time of year, but they're really high here. Five green onions for nearly two dollars! :(

I bought a box of kosher salt today and paid $4, and I paid $3.99 for a gallon of white vinegar.  Strawberries are $2.38 a quart, $3.50 if topped.  Blackberries are $4.99 a 1/2 pint.

I bought fun sea salt from our African Market, also palm oil I've been using in soups, beans, etc.  It has a great flavor.  I have no idea if it is healthy oil or not.

Prices here up on eggs, milk, produce- luckily now it seems they are using milk as a sale item, almost every other week I can find it on sale.  I think bread is going up, too.

Tomorrow at the store I need butter, sugars, honey, cocoa, eggs, cheese, corn chips, diapers, and toilet paper!  Will check prices- I know gas has dipped down, could food have dropped back a little?
