Re: I Rediscovered The Dollar Tree

The only things we buy every month at Dollar Tree right now are about 50 boxes of tissue (2 adults with serious sinus troubles and 4 cats), and a pack of drinking straws.  Sometimes, a pack of dust masks if they're stocked.  I'd like to go at the first of next month to see how much we could save buying other stuff there (like cleaner, liquid soap).  We paid $2.50 for Fantastik at Kroger (emergency purchase), and I'd say we could get something for $1 at DT if it's not too strong of a scent (allergies).

LindaC, why not buy a spray bottle (of use one you already have) and try half white vinegar and water for a cleaner. I use it on my counters and love it! Also, the scent is gone in under a minute so no allergy problems for me! Cost of this if you already have bottle is between 25 and 40 cents. If you have to buy a bottle, it is a one time investment from dollar tree!

My local dollar tree has large (32 oz) spray bottles that you can buy.  My favorite spray cleaner (gets EVERYTHING) is 2/3rds water, 1/3rd white vinegar, and a dollop of cheap shampoo (you could use anything that doesn't set off your allergies).    I make that stuff up in my spray bottles and it does kitchen counters, the shower, you name it.

So I buy the spray bottles there and some cheap shampoo.  I also get baskets for displays, craft supplies, candy, etc.

Funny that this is mentioned. I am headed there today for some spray bottles for cleaners, LOL!

I have been reusing some commercial cleaner bottles and those only last so long before they stop spraying properly.

I recently got back from a trip on grehound, and I can tell you The Dollar Trees I shopped at everytime we stopped had no frozen food section, and I asked. The owner said they don't have frozen food just ice cream treats. You are confusing Dollar Tree with Dollar General. Just trying to clear things up. LOL you had me crackin up laughing when I heard Dollar Tree had frozen food. I even checked out there website. No frozen food just ice cream.Smile

Thw Dollar Tree in Newport News, VA and the Dollar Tree in my town in Virginia both have frozen foods for sale. The Dollar Generals in Virginia that I've done business with do not have frozen foods for sale.

There is a Dollar General in my town. You can get really good deals on other things there, but no frozen foods.

The Dollar Tree carries canned foods as well as frozen foods. The Dollar Trees that carry frozen foods are located in former supermarket buildings. The Dollar Tree in Newport News used to be an Farmer Jack's.. The Dollar Tree in my town used to be a Winn-Dixie.

My Dollar Tree does not carry frozen foods. I go there for spray bottles, & for large gift bags& bows for birthdays because they have the large size gift bags plus a bow for $1.2 of my g-kids have birthdays in July & last year I bought sparkly navy blue bags with blue bows. They were sturdy enough for a couple of uses before dying.  Added some red curly ribbon for GS & some white curly ribbon for GD - they loved it & it was big enough to hold the clothes they were getting, plus a treat. I noticed DD re-used one of the bags in January for the older GD, & hung a few snowflakes on the handle.  Looked great & she loved it.

Dollar Tree's headquarters is in Chesapeake, VA, I think.

There are some other dollar stores that carry "cheap" produce, but they are not located near my house. I was reading about them in a national magazine some months ago.

Re: I Rediscovered The Dollar Tree

Thank you all for the suggestions about cleaners.  I've used vinegar some, but my sister doesn't like the smell and complains some.  I used vinegar to clean out the coffeemaker.  The coffee had tasted yucky for a while, so I checked the reservoir one day, and to my horror, it had black mold inside & we couldn't afford to buy another at the time, so I searched google about how to clean it then spent half a day pouring in hot vinegar & letting it run thru then scrubbing the reservoir 'til it was sparkling clean.  That smell (vinegar) stayed in my sinuses for a few days. Then I used some vinegar to clean the bathroom door & some wall area around the sink & the medicine cabinet and tried to rinse the vinegar off as much as possible, and my sister still could smell it, but didn't really complain much that time.  She is even more sensitive to some smells than I am.  We can use some cleaners without much sinus trouble, but have to have good ventilation.  Some cleaners just have a more pleasant scent than others and aren't as irritating. :)

Re: I Rediscovered The Dollar Tree

I got to thinking about it after I had posted about the Dollar Tree & remembered that we had bought a few things from them in the past year.  I wanted some taller, sturdy glasses and couldn't find any inexpensive ones until we checked the DT.  Can't beat $1 glasses!  Either Walmart or Kmart had the same glasses in a set and they were more expensive.

We usually buy 50+ boxes of tissue each month (that's for my sister & me who have very bad sinus troubles, my mom, and 4 cats who sometimes need a face or hind end wipe).  :)    They carry Scotties brand which we like.  My sinuses have improved a little bit in the past few months, so we've been using a little less.

Also, face masks, straws, a metal spatula, rubber gloves, a sponge mop.  It's fun to shop there!  You can get so much for so little!
