Thanks for the link Brandy!  It will be nice not to not have to worry about that money when filing taxes next year.  Last time, we didn't have to pay tax on the amount we received, we just had to pay it back.  Ouch-it really hurt!

Have been really confused about this rebate as well-sometimes news says it is an advance and sometimes that it is not.  Either way, it's nice to have some extra money, even nicer if I don't have to pay it back!

    Thanks again!

Well for us we were going to put it into home improvements/debt/taxes but now I think we may be putting it towards a first and last months rent. It doesnt look like we will be able to keep the house. We have been turned down for loans and we have 1 left to hear back from. I honestly want to keep my house but know that if it is in Gods plan to do so  then we will. Otherwise we will rent, pay off more debt and learn from our mistakes- never sign a balloon payment. So long as we are together and healthy we will be fine.

I would love to see a clearer response from the IRS on the confusion about it being an advance or a rebate. It seems that initially no one was sure what was going on and reports were coming out as the IRS was considering options.

We are putting ours, in its entirety into our home repair/renovation fund - and when we have enough we will begin work on the house. So we are saving it....for a bigger expense...that will return to us when we sell the home. peace

Mine is going towards a new scooter to save money on gas.  By spending 1200 on a scooter I will save 5000 in gas over a year, thus making the scooter free from all the gas money it saves!

I am using mine to help pay for a vacation to Canada ( Niagra Falls) for the kids.  I am finally in a place where I can afford a little vacation.  It is probably not the best thing to do with my check, but I want to have some fun and memories with my kids.

My family & I are in the same situation as mamasjob.  The 'economic stimulus' $ that we get is going to go right back to Uncle Sam, to pay our taxes (which we're going to have to put on our credit card until that check comes, because we have exhausted savings just to pay for heat, gas for the car, & groceries this winter).  :sigh:
