    Caramel Frosting

     Does anyone have an easy caramel frosting recipe? It is my dh favorite and I can't find it in the stores here!!! Saturday is his birthday and would love to make him a spice cake with caramel frosting.

     There is one on the Wilton Cake decorating site that is easy:

    We’ve swirled satiny caramel topping into classic buttercream mixture to create this rich Caramel Buttercream Icing.



    • 1/3 cup solid vegetable shortening
    • 1/3 cup butter
    • 2/3 cup caramel ice cream topping
    • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • 4 cups (approx. 1 lb) confectioner's sugar sifted


    3 cups.


    • Electric mixer


    Step 1

    Cream shortening and butter with electric mixer. Add ice cream topping and vanilla. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry. Add milk and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.

    Step 2

    Keep icing covered with a damp cloth until ready to use. For best results, keep icing bowl in refrigerator when not in use. Refrigerated in an airtight container, this icing can be stored 2 weeks. Re-whip before using.

    1/2 c. butter
    1 c. brown sugar, packed
    1/4 c. milk
    1 3/4 to 2 c. sifted confectioners' sugar

    Melt butter in saucepan. Add brown sugar. Boil over low heat for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in milk. Bring to boil, stirring constantly. Cool to lukewarm. Gradually add sugar. Beat until thick enough to spread. Add a little hot water, if needed.



    have had this recipe for over 30 years. Cream may be substituted for the milk for added richness."

    2 tablespoons butter
    3 tablespoons milk
    1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    1 cup confectioners' sugar
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

    In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, and mix in 3 tablespoons milk and brown sugar. Boil vigorously for 1 minute.

    Remove from heat, and beat in 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar. Cool slightly, and beat in the vanilla and remaining 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar. Add more milk if the mixture is too thick
