Our Cell phone budget is now $100 per year.

I want to share how we found a big leak in our budget and fixed it.

Our cell phone bill used to be $47 per month.

We don't use our cell phone much.  We only use it for emergencies or the occasional phone call.

So, we found a pre-paid plan that allows us to purchase 1000 minutes and keep that 1000 minutes for a whole year.

So, now our cell phone bill is $100 per year.

A few things you have to know:

    1. most prepaid plans will expire in 90 days.

    2. If you, however, buy 1000 minutes up front for $100 (in our case, it was through a T-mobile promotion), you can keep that 1000 minutes for a whole year.

That is pretty much it.  We are coming up against the end of our second year.  With one month to go on our second year, we still have 168 minutes left.  So, as you can see, 1000 minutes if plenty of air time.

In April, we will be purchasing another 1000 minutes.

    cheers.

We went with Tracfone because of the coverage area, but it still cut the annual bill in half, and we got two phones instead of one.

I have T-Mobile minutes, and now dd and dh do, also.  One thing that saves us all money is free or 5 cent texts, dd texts me from the Netherlands for free, I text her back for a nickel.

    That saves lots!

You can buy a phone at Walgreens for $30 to put the minutes on, you don't need one of their phones.

We just were able to get out from under our contract and cut our cellphone bill by $30 a month but we lost one phone and a lot of coverage area to do it.  I would love to cut that down even more and possibly add a second line.  DH takes the phone to work with him in case he has to stay late because he has no access to a phone but I feel that I need one if I need to get out at night because of my disablility.
