    Plastic lid drawer is bulging

Help me out, please! I finally decided to clean out some kitchen drawers (I'm a hoarder by nature!) and I have a zillion plastic lids that don't fit anything. I know I can just throw them out, but before I do, what else can I use them for?

I already use them for coasters, to put under plant pots and to cut an occasional template for crafting. That can't be all the uses there are!

I made a hamburger-patty-maker with lids, a small coffee can, and a plastic cup.  Remove the bottom of the coffee can, and cut the lids to just fit the inside of the can.  Put in a large handful of ground beef, add a lid, squish with cup.  Repeat.  When it's all filled, push them out into a clean bread bag and freeze.  Then you have hamburger patties separated by plastic disks and you can take out as many as you want.

I've also used them to replace missing washers (as in the bolt kind) and used them to repair my washer (as in the clothes kind.)  A piece wore out that was basically a plastic separator, so three plastic lids cut to fit worked nicely.

If I'm feeling lazy I sometimes use them as a disposable plate for snacks.

ps.  This is my first post, so Hi, Everybody!

Great ideas, thanks! Your hamburger press is creative! I'll have to try it. I would never have thought of using plastic lids for washers, either.

Welcome to the forum, by the way. Smile

I have used mine as a small paint palette for mixing small amounts of paint or touch ups. Have also used them like frizbees for kids to play with. Another use is as a waterproof row marker for the garden. Just poke a hole in the top and bottom and use a permanent marker to mark it then slide over a stick to mark the row. I was just thinking that you could even cut out a few 50 cent piece sizes of the lids, put a hole in the middle and tie them together to use as a bobber for fishing.

My husband cuts out necessary custom-fit plugs and pieces from scratched DVDs, CDs, and plastic lids, depending on the firmness he needs for the repair he's doing. He made a plug for the hot water hose for our washer that way, since we don't have hot water to hook up to that hose, but it would run out cold water if we didn't plug it.

Depending on how strong they are make different size bags and use them for the bottom to make them stand up better.  Enclose one in matching fabric and attach to the bottom of a bag. Or for a knitted bag. Edey

I use stray lids as "coasters." I have one holding a brillo pad I keep near the sink, and one under my can of shaving foam in the bath tub. Both of those things would leave rust spots behind otherwise.

Thanks for all the ideas... this is an old thread resurrected! Somewhere on here is another thread about getting rid of things that inspired me to throw them out. I got a little carried away... so now I'm short a few lids. I'll have to wait to try some of these ideas.
