What Is HE Detergent and Should You Use It?

High efficiency washing machines made today are designed to use less water than other machines. With less water used and a change in how the machine operates, detergent that create less suds was required.

Some manufactures specify that HE detergent should be used. Some will void warranties on machines that have had regular detergent used. They say it interferes with the performance of the machine.

How long is a warranty good for? I guess when buying a washing machine it is an expense to consider in the price of it. Dd uses a 'green' product (good for environment) so am guessing there are lots less suds in something like that. It's possible tho that that would be expensive too. We just have a 'regular' washing machine but it does have several settings for water level which is helpful. Therefore, I use very cheap laundry detergent (but no extremely dirty clothes here).

I have had my Kenmore elite HE washing machine for over 5 years and have always bought the HE detergents because it states in the owners manual that it voids the warranty. A lot of the detergent companies make HE detergent nowadays. When I first bought my machine the HE detergents were hard to find. I use the Kirkland brand from Costco or the ECOS brand which is all natural. They are both about 12 bucks for a huge bottle and last me about 3-4 months.
