I really enjoy most of the posts from The Simple Dollar site. I think the one thing that does kinda bother me is that he spends about $700/month for his family of 4 (2 young children; no teens or tweens) each month. I understand that he values whole foods, organic, etc. and that his budget allows for him to express his personal values in this way. However, I wish spent a little more time with those of us who do the best we can, but really don't have it in our budget to do 75% or more organic. (Heck, I'm lucky if we get 1 or 2 organic foods a week and that's b/c I happen to have a coupon or find it on markdown....)
I also really dig the $5 dinners blog; the author is getting ready to come out with a cookbook. I just really enjoy that she takes the time to show people that good, healthy, well-rounded meals can be had if you spend a bit of time planning things out. She's been doing some gardening this summer and that's been fun to watch. She's really getting into using what's being grown -- either for right away or the future. She's a bit of a novice so I'm hoping to read back on her entries next year when I do my own beginner gardening.
One thing that I really commend both of these bloggers for -- their children eat the healthy food placed in front of them. My DD is also a good eater and loves her veggies and fruit and it can take a lot for a child to get to that point. It does help to start them off early with a positive attitude about food; I hope to continue watching their kids (and my own) make healthy food choices.
The whole point of turkey is to get to the pie.
