Know Your Rights With Debt Collectors

Less income is flowing in, the bills get harder to pay and the debts collectors are beginning to call.

Know your rights before the phone begins to ring! Even if you owe money, there are laws that collectors have to follow and there are also limitations on how long a collector can attempt to get payment on a debt.

The first thing is to not panic. Keep a clear head so you can communicate well. Things we don't plan for happen. Be proactive and make a plan for how to handle the debts or the collections.

Check your state for the laws on debt and collections. There are collectors who will use tactics that are illegal or unethical. They just want your money and will do what they think will work to get it.

Have you ever had a strategy work in communicating with a debt collector?
