How do you use these programs to spend less on food and other items?

I really like the Kroger member card program. Their website has coupons you can just load onto the card, then just print a list of them out, so you end up clipping and sorting fewer coupons.

But the best thing is the fuel points- for every $100 you spend there, you get 10 cents off per gallon of gas at Shell stations. And they sometimes have double or quadruple fuel points promotions for buying gift cards. So for example, if you have a $50 purchase to make at Best Buy, you could go buy $50 worth of Best Buy gift cards at Kroger, use those for your purchase, and get 200 fuel points for 20 cents off per gallon of gas.

 I don't have any.  It is a 50+ mile round trip to any of the big box stores that offer them.  We shop locally in our small town.
