Electric menorah received!!!!!
Some of you may remember taht I was seriously burned on 12/16/06, the first night of Chanukah last year. My aide (a substitute) was trying to help me light the menorah candles; my nightgown caught fire; & I ended up wuith second-degree burns on 20% of my body (wrist to chest). SO I was telling myself that I'd just have to skip "bensching licht" (blessing the candlelight) this year. Well, my family came through -- an aunt & her children gave me an electric menorah, which arrived yesteray! What a wonderful gift! I thought that folks on this Forum might want to hear of my good fortune, &, since this Kosher sub-forum addresses Judaism, I thought it best to post this tremendous gift here! The first candles of Chanukah are lit this year on Dec 4th, & I'll be able to join with my co-religionists in lighting them.
I know from previous posts that there are several folks on this Forum who are believing Christians who are trying to find out more about Old Testament ways, & to incorporate some into their family lives. Is it possible that the story of the Maccabees is in teh Christian Acrophyra? It is not a separate book in our Scriptures. Chanukah is indeed a minor holiday historically, but has become much more important to Jews in a majority Christain culture. I can learn from you about this.

Deborahmichelle: Is it possible that the story of the Maccabees is in teh Christian Acrophyra? Maccabees is not in the Protestant Old Testament, but I believe can be found in the Acrophyra. I do know that the Catholics have kept Maccabees in their Old Testament. It is two books found between Esther and Job. { I was raised Catholic, but did have to go look up where it is exactly in their bible, my memory is not that good} That is a wonderful praise report on receiving a menorah so you may continue to celebrate this feast.

Dear Sue, Martha My Family's Interests, & Luvd_Lioness, Thank you for adding to my happiness -- a joy shared is a joy multiplied.
Dear Sue, I knew that the account of the Maccabees haD to be in SOMEONE's Scriptures! So the Vulgate has it. For all of you, the 1st miracle that the Bible celebrates is that the Maccabees were brave & skilled enough to keep the Romans at bay for some time. The 2nd miracle is that once they secured the land around the Temple, & the priests entered the Temple, there was only enough consecrated oil for he 1st night -- the Romans had desecrated the rest. Yet G-d intervened & the oil lasted for 8 nights, giving the Priests time to consecrate new oil ....

Dear Babs, Another miracle along the lines of multiplication is in 2Kings 42, Elisha's transmogrifying an offering of one man's, so that a hundred ate & there were left-overs.
I have in the past heard a Christian rock song withthe refrain, "Our G-d is a Mighty G-d." Do you know this song? Would you please remind me of the words, maybe send me to an appropriate website? Thanks ever so much indeed.

Re: Electric menorah received!!!!!
Deborahmichelle:"Our G-d is a Mighty G-d." "Awesome God" sung by the late Rich Mullins. When He rolls up His sleeves He ain't just putting on the ritz Our God is an awesome God There is thunder in His footsteps And lightning in His fists Our God is an awesome God The Lord wasn't joking When He kicked 'em out of Eden It wasn't for no reason That He shed His blood His return is very close And so you better be believing that Our God is an awesome God
Chorus: Our God is an awesome God He reigns from Heaven above With wisdom power and love Our God is an awesome God
And when the sky was starless In the void of the night Our God is an awesome God He spoke into the darkness And created the light Our God is an awesome God Judgment and wrath He poured out on Sodom Mercy and grace He gave us at the cross I hope that we have not Too quickly forgotten that Our God is an awesome God.
1 Samuel 12:24 But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.
The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is an attribute of the strong. - Mahatma Gandhi

Thanks, Latte, for the website.
Wow, Luvd_Lioness, ALL the lyrics! THAT is the song that I meant! I love that creation part (next-to-last verse). I REALLY appreciate your help!
