How to remove ice from car mirrors

A freind asked how she could remove the ice from the rear-view and side mirrors on her car. The rest of the car was iced over, and she tried de-icer, which only formed another layer of ice. Outside of hot water, when she is out on the road, is there anything she can do? She doesn't want to try to chip it off.

In very cold winter temps, the water/vinegar thing won't work--other than creating very clean mirrors under the ice.  Big Smile  We use the spray-on deicer to soften/melt the ice, and follow with an ice scraper.  Sometimes, a thin layer of ice does form--in very cold temps--well below freezing or sub zero.  The other solution is to run the vehicle until it heats up, with the defrosters on full blast to help melt the ice/warm the glass, and use an ice scraper.
