    New Ideas For Gift Giving

In Canada, the Christmas season shifts into high gear as soon as Halloween is over. Here are a few gift basket ideas from the dollar store, each one under ten dollars.

Christmas basket with two wine glasses, set of coasters, a candle and candle holder, package of fancy cookies, tin of fruit candies and metal wine bottle stopper. $9.00

Kid's gift with three disney books, board game, lantern flashlight with batteries, 3 tins of Pay Doh and a stuffed animal. $9.00

New baby gift with two pairs different booties, two bibs, two baby bottles, a teether, a rattle and a baby board book. $9.00

Men's gift - small metal pail (ice bucket) with two beer glasses, ceramic coasters (in appropriate pattern like playing cards) and a bag of Planter's peanuts. $5.00

These are just four ideas. Look at the gift baskets you see made up in department stores and see if you can duplicate them with similar items from the dollar store. It's easy and fun, too.

Re: New Ideas For Gift Giving

I saw a cute idea yesterday. It came from a family doing Operation Shoebox for Samaratians Purse. They are doing shoebox gifts for everyone in their family. The ideas for gifts in a shoebox could be expensive for not. Gift card with Dollar Store items, homemade cookies, real shoes, small items of clothes such as socks, small toys, Barbies, matchbox cars samples.  The list in endless. The amount of space under tree is used more wisely. I thought this is a great idea. I will be discussing this with my family for next year. Babs

What a great idea! Some of the best gifts come in small packages anyway and, as you say, you could mix and match whatever your budget is.

I think the charitable gift ideas are the best. Not only are you giving, but you are doing a worthwhile thing for a good cause.

My Mom recently told me about Giving Tree, which is a company that sells debit gift cards. The really neat catch is that they require all of the gift card recipients to donate 10% of the money on the card to non-profit organization. Apparently, they have something like 1.5 million non-profits that the recipient can choose from so they have plenty of choice! Anyways, if you're interested, you can learn more about it at their website.

Keep those great gift ideas coming!

This sounds like a good idea. There are always those who have less than we do and we need to incorporate charities into our gift giving.

Re: New Ideas For Gift Giving

    Hello..........

Thanks for sharing this info. I want to share Top Ten Gift Giving Ideas :-

    1. Local delicacies - Provided that you can get certain items through customs, sending local foods that your friends and family can not get anywhere local is a great way to gift someone.
    2. Local wines - Since the weather is different in nearly every region of the globe, wine producing countries will yield different flavours of wine. Try to find your local specialty and send that to others.
    3. A map of your area - Perhaps to encourage friends and family to visit, a map as a present allows them to see just where you are (you may want to mark that on the map itself) as well as where other famous attractions lie.
    4. A book about your city or country - Try to encourage friends and family to learn more about your new home by providing them with a book about the region. The book should contain any information they might need to get around as well as tips as to what to explore when they arrive.
    5. A clock - Because you’re probably dealing with vast differences in time zones, buying friends and family a clock set to your local time can allow them to see when your day is beginning and ending and when they might want to call.
    6. Calling cards - The price of international calls can be steep, especially if you’re not investing in VoIP phone services or other calling plans. To help with this cost, you can give calling cards that will allow you to reconnect from time to time.
    7. Photographs - Assembling a photo album or video of your new home can help friends and family see where you live and what it’s really like. You might also want to choose one individual picture that can be framed and wrapped.
    8. Local textiles - Every country has its own specialty, so why not find it and give it to the ones that you love? Look for useful things like blankets and pottery, for example.
    9. Local tourist-y items - Since not all of your friends and family will be able to come out and visit the local sites, why not send the souvenirs that they were going to buy anyways?
    10. Plane tickets - If price is not an issue, you might want to send your friends and family plane tickets or gifts cards towards purchasing such tickets. There’s nothing like seeing your family in person.

    Thanks

    Have a nice time  head.

When a family member died, all of us in the family had album upon album and frame upon frame to discard. It was sad.

Why did you have to discard them?  For my grandfather's 90th birthday, I compiled everything I could find on the family genealogy, entered the data into a family tree format with pictures of every family member I could lay hands on, and had everyone who attended his birthday party/family reunion sign their photos.  It was one of his favorite gifts - and upon his death, it was returned to me, with comments he'd written in it later about various pieces of family history.  The only reason I could create it in the first place was that as various elderly family members died, the pictures were given to me, because I was interested in genealogy.  Those are where I got the pictures I used in the family tree.

The photos were not of family members or anyone we knew. No old photos were discarded. Many also were duplicates. Those we could give to original owners, we did, but they often had more copies than they wanted.
