    Stretching $ ... on Saturday 10-13

I did spend money but I also saved in a way. I bought an area rug for my kitchen (to keep my toes warmer while sitting at the table) and when I was resetting the table back on the rug, I heard a "snap"... one of my table legs snapped on the top. I knew that it would do it some day, the wood is very brittle and old, so I flipped the thing over. No chances of nailing or screwing again... so TAPE! Big Smile I put 3 layers on to hold it. Now the table should be fine for another couple years. It is now sturdier than it was before. Smile

I'm used to getting junk mail but found something of value today in there. It was a $15 card for minutes for keeping my prepaid cell phone.  I had last used my phone in June. The phone would be cut off so to keep me they are paying me $15. Considering I didn't like the conditions on the phone (it's Alltell prepaid; you have to use your minutes up within 60 days or they are gone, something not stated until you open the box after buying), I'll take the $15 and see how long they keep stringing me. I don't use my cell anyway but $15 free minutes is worth putting on. Smile

Stretching $ today.....I made homemade tomato soup for lunch today from a large bowlful of tomatoes from the garden.  There is enough for probably 3-4 more lunches, so saved a bundle. The only cash outlay was for onions and celery when I cooked the tomatoes.

I still have bags of chicken thighs from past Angel Food packages. I am boiling a whole bag now to make chicken stock. I will debone the chicken to use some for soup for dinner and then use some for a stew tomorrow. I also will be making a bit of dog food with some of this chicken and broth.

I stopped at the thrift shop and found two perfect matching mugs for 50 cents each for a couple for a Christmas basket I'm putting together for them. I'll put in hot chocolate mix and (free) gourmet coffee samples. .

I bought a beautiful coat for DGD, 6 Christmas mugs paid $20 for all  at the thrift store. The coat sells for $140. It is a Rothschild wool coat.  I was overwhelmed when I saw it.

Cooking baked beans for church dinner. Added a pound of hot dogs for a little more flavor.Beans came free from M IL.

Not quite a stretcher day or weekend...friend's childs birthday party tonight so the whole family is going, will be fun. free food and entertainment but then you bring a gift so I guess one cancels the other in savings, same with sunday nite, dh family birthday dinner. but on the other hand I don't have to cook all weekend!  Had a parents group meeting this morning, organizing a kids stuff only swap meet for Nov.  so DH bought the kids to the fire hall open house where they are buying hot dogs for lunch (for charity) it is fire awareness week here. DS loves firetrucks!   Stopped at the store for bread and some red potatoes for .39 a lb (special ) and dole bananas for .57 a lb (reg price) and one of the kraft frozen pizzas delisso brand on special for 4.98 usually the cheapest they are is $5.98 on special.  Stopped at the dollar store for some halloween goodies for filling prize jars and decorating cakes for donating to the schools halloween carnival. so many cute halloween things!

DH changed the bed sheets, and did dishes so I just have time for laundry and a quick cleanup before the party. I will do more housework tomorrow since I have to work monday.

If you were not part of an earlier conversation regarding how to repair things economically you should check into Gorilla Glue to repair you table. It works wonders, is VERY strong and it is easy to use. You can buy it at Home Depot or pretty much any fix it store and in my opinion no home tool box is complete without it. It comes in three sizes I think. Small, medium and Large containers. It is not really expensive and it works wonders. Just follow the lable directions. The package has a gorilla on the bottle and the glue is the color of dark honey. Try it! You will be amazed.

Today was not a stretching day for me. We needed a new skillet and I went to Kitchen Kaboodle to find a nice durable one. We have been replacing our kitchen cookware a little at a time with high quality cookware that will last for years. I purchased a very nice high quality skillet with lid to replace the one that was so bad you couldn't cook in it anymore. The new one was $159.00 but will last for years and years.
